Need help with aux. input problem.

I just got my aux. input installed on my base system by my dealer yesterday. When I plugged my iPod in this morning the sound was very faint. I started by adjusted the settings and had to crank the aux. preference level up to 5 just to hear it above my exhaust note. Upon further investigation I noticed that only one channel was working, and I am only getting sound on the driver's side of the car (both channels are working fine on all other modes). I'm sure this is just a matter of a bad connection or "no connection", but I haven't installed my own radio since I was 18. Is there an easy fix for this? I really don't want to bring it back to the dealer as they are really backed up and had my car for two days just to do the original install. However, considering I have already paid for the install, I also don't want to start messing around with wires and screw anything up myself when I could just have the dealer do it for free. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in adavnce.

Hmm...did you make sure the volume on your audio device plugged into the input it turned up?

Also it couldn't hurt to double-check the connection of the input to your head unit.

Yeah, I have adjusted the volume on the iPod, but it isn't an overall volume thing, I am only getting one sound on one side. If I trun the iPod up past halfway the speakers start to distort on the one side that works.

Thansk for the link, I'll look at the connection.

This may be a silly question- but did you check to make sure you are using a stereo mini cable?

I had the same thing happen to me- turned out I had accidentally picked up a mono mini to mini cable doh!

good luck

Not a silly question at all, because I don't know...

The cable packaging is at home, so I can't check the label. Is there anyway I can tell from the cable itself?

oh- forgot- easy way to check is to look at the plug- if it has two "black rings" its a stereo plug - one ring is mono

Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle. One black ring on each end. So, do I want to pick up a mono to stereo or a stereo to stereo?

One other thing you should do... Go into itunes and in the volume adjustment for your songs, set it to +100.

And one more thing - you should get the Belkin Auto Adapter. It plus into the cigarette lighter (or you can add an additional outlet in the glovebox or other convenient location, and the iPod plugs into the adapter. It seriously boosts the volume and has its own volume control. It makes a huge difference and you don't have to worry about your iPod battery wearing down.

Have you checked your connection. The first time I plugged into my AUX adaptor, it was mono, but then I noticed that the cord wasn't plugged in all the way.

ALSO, the head unit has a way to adjust the input strength. You may want to check that.

The Belkin Auto Kit Rocks, except I put the Belkin volume control all the way up, which picks up every little distortion. I can't adjust it until I remove my Euro Parcel Shelf, because it resides under the dash.

So I just bought a 2006 MCS and it has nav and the HK stereo. I just installed a aux input which was taken from a 2008 model it has three wires a yellow black and clear. I saw a post on which pins to connect them to and to move my nav voice to the same connection and it worked... PROBLEM... I am only getting the vocals from the passenger side. Mid range and bass are working but not vocal. It works perfect with a cd mp3 and the radio but not with the aux.... Any suggestions?
