R56 Pre-LCI CCC Satnav upgrade to LCI CIC Satnav? Possible?

Hi there,

I've been trawling through the forums most the morning and all I can really find is people retrofitting either a CCC pre-lci satnav into pre-lci cars that didn't come with a satnav from factory, retrofitting a CIC lci satnav into lci cars that didn't come with a satnav from factory, upgrading either CCC or CIC satnavs to full android headunits or finally, fitting an apple car play box into CIC satnav cars.

I've got a 2007 Cooper S with the factory pre-lci CCC satnav unit, firstly, would it be possible to retrofit a CIC lci satnav into my pre-lci car? Secondly, would be possible to get an apple car play/android auto box for the old CCC headunit as it seems it's only for the newer CIC units.

My ideal situation would be to have the newer CIC satnav retrofitted in and then have a hidden android auto box because it would be nicer to have the newer looking graphics of the CIC system and factory look with the ability to active android auto using the factory satnav, my 2nd most ideal situation would be to leave the CCC system but just have a hidden android auto box that is compatible with it. I personally want to avoid full android head units as I would lose the factory MINI software and oem stock interior look with some plastic looking aliexpress android screen and not a huge fan of that.

If there any forums available that do exactly what I've asked but just simply missed them, please feel free to link them and apologies for missing them.

Kind Regards,
Chris

From what I've been able to research, your only real option is to retrofit an entire CIC system into your car and THEN buy the MMI Box. This is because there isn't anyone who makes an MMI box to update the Pre-LCI CCC Sat/Nav system.

So, here is the difficulty, what is NEEDED is both the CIC head unit and the CIC screen. Problem with just replacing those two things is that it leaves a hole in the dash where the old disk goes. So in order to do this cleanly, you'll need a donor interior which has not only the CIC head unit and screen but also the dash components so everything fits cleaner in the end. Once you get the dash components from your donor car, you'll need to buy a MMI Box to run Android or Apple. The parts are not cheap if bought separately online from places like eBay.

I've been looking for a couple months for a smashed-up 2011+ R56 with Sat/Nav to buy on the cheap. It looks like I may have a shot at a 2014 Coupe (which has the R56 interior) that is completely smashed in the rear. If I can get my hands on that for under $1k, I'll be going after it and doing exactly what you are talking about here.

I just bought a CIC head unit and nav screen and I am going to tackle retrofitting my CCC to CIC. There is obviously the extremely long thread you probably already saw and it basically only addresses going from no-nav to a NAV model of the sale LCI or Pre-LCI... What makes that thread tough is that many of the useful links in it are no longer functioning. I cannot figure out how to program the CIC I just bought for my cars VIN number. i'll figure out the wiring once I get in there but there seems to be some other stuff I need to get sorted before I start.

I am also trying to figure out if the CCC combox is different than the CIC combox... I am sure it is which means I will need to buy a new Combox for this CIC but they are readily available on eBay.

I am hoping someone jumps in here to help shed some light. I think there will be more people looking to upgrade from CIC to CCC in the next few years as the CIC is really not aging well. The maps are so out of date by now.
