NBT vs EVO and CarPlay confusion

Hi all, I recently bought a 2019 MCS. It has the smaller 6.5" screen. I was doing my best to avoid this post, but I need help. Am I correct in understanding that I can add a retrofit CarPlay module (like this:
Amazon Amazon
) if I have the NBT system, but if I have the EVO system, it can be enabled via a software update? How do I know what I have? My goal is to enable CarPlay as easily and as cost-effective as possible. I installed one of the retrofit boxes on a BMW in the past and it worked great, just not sure if I need to, or even can, with my current car. Thanks in advance!

2019 is pretty new, I'm going to guess you have one of the entrynav visual boost units, which sadly means those boxes won't work. (I agree, the boxes work well).

you could always remove the screen and see what's back there. Not hard to remove.

Thanks, Dan. And dang it. I was afraid of that. Is there any way I can tell what I’m working with? I have no touchscreen and the small screen. If I can’t use one of the boxes and I can’t do a software update, am I screwed in terms of CarPlay addition? Thanks again!

Same issue for a 2022.
Touch screen without factory NAV, no way to get carplay without replacing entire head unit.
I sort of knew that going in and was working with extremely limited local inventory available and needing a car immediatley.

Hi guys, I’m also wanting apple carplay. I’ve put a deposit down on a December 68 plate 2018 F55 1.5 petrol Cooper Classic (which I collect Wednesday). It has the colour 6.5” media, with no Nav, has parking sensors front and rear and reversing camera. What’s my best and least expensive way to get carplay, if at all?

cheers

I was in the same boat, I just upgraded to a larger screen, 8.8" and purchased the CarPlay MMI Prime Retrofit Box. Took about an hour to install. Still don't have touchscreen but everything works great. Still expensive but not as expensive as a complete system change and programming.

So with this being the case, what are my options if I want to upgrade to an 8.8" from a 6.5"?

don’t want to be “that guy” but could you point me in the direction of a set I can buy online?

was also thinking about calling a local place to see if they can help me find the parts and install.
