What's the "Driver" setting on the factory HU?

Once I scroll through the Bass, Treble etc. settings, there is a setting that says "Driver" ON or OFF. Off seems to send more sound to the front speakers Anyone know what this setting actually does?

Thanks,

It alters the timing of the speakers so the sound seems to be directed toward the driver, rather than distributed evenly around the cabin.

Driver Setting

Hello Bob,
My understanding is the "Driver" setting on the HK images or focuses the sound around the driver if he or she is the only one in the car. Apparently there is a sensor in the seat that activates this setting. Does not work if anyone else is seated in the car. Hope this has been helpful.

It works in my car regardless of passenger or not. Not sure why it works but it does.

I think that it delays the driver side speaker so that the sound seems more centered around the driver. If you can get the sound from each side to reach the driver at the same time it will sound like the speakers are equal distant from the driver.

The above explination may be wrong, but that is how I understand it based on this article here on MotoringFile.

Are you guys talking about the HK unit? The "factory head unit" on my '05 doesn't seem to have this "Driver" setting.
