Why did they remove the touch controller?

The dealership says that Mini has stopped providing the touch controller, even as an option, starting in MY2020. But why? The basic controller looks much less premium and removes useful features (I particularly love the scribble drawing and the pinch zooming is nice too). The dealership said that nobody used the touch (which I object to), but the orange plastic looks cheap and tacky.
I would gladly pay the $100 extra parts cost to install it at the factory, if I was given the option to personalize my Mini the way I wanted. I guess I'll just have to do it myself!
