HU Removal How-To?

Does anyone have a how-to on how to remove the Headunit. My Ice-Link plus just shipped and I cannot install without knowing how to remove the Headunit.

Hmmm, thanks, don't know how much that helps...

But I'll give it a shot.

Is there a code that must be entered when the battery is disconnceted and the HU is removed, when it's placed back in, is there a certain code?

No it's super easy to remove the head unit. All you need are two hands and a T-20 (torx) screwdriver.

1. if you still have the stock knee bolster, [get rid of it and install a euro shelf, ya goof! lol] yank it down to expose the top of two screws holding the driver side center console pillar down

2. after removing the two screws on the underside, yank the center dash trim out from the bottom side, it hinges from the top. Ooops, don't forget to pull the trim rings around the light dimmer and hazard flasher buttons. You'll be sure you broke it, but I'm pretty sure you didn't.

3. unbolt the center console pillars, two screws on each side. Pull them out from the top first, then pull them up from the bottom part of the center console.

4. four screws hold in the head unit, unbolt 'em and pull out the head unit

5. the main connector is the BMW standard cam and lever style. Flip and slide is the only way I can describe it The AM/FM antenna just pulls out.

Voila! Installation is the reverse of removal (flashbacks to Bentley manual, aaah!) Remember to slap the dash trim back in place with your palm, and don't forget the two trim rings for the buttons!

First timers should take about 10 minutes for removal, including faux-breakage cringing

Cheers,
Ryan
