Question Install aftermarket backup camera/CarPlay to F56

Hi, I'm new here, and I'm looking to buy a 2017 Mini Cooper soon. I want to have the backup camera but most around me don't have one although having the screen. I've found someone (not sure if he is a mechanic) who can install aftermarket cameras for about $500, he told me that it would also include the CarPlay. I did research online and saw videos on Youtube of the installing process, and it seems that it will have to install a module to the head unit by changing and plugging wires. I have no idea how reliable it would be and whether it could die in the middle of driving.

So does anyone know if the head unit on MINIs only control media related things? Anything related to driving? I've asked the dealer and was told that the installation would void the warranty (I assume only warranty on related parts). So I'd like to know how severe the consequence would be if the aftermarket camera/CarPlay is not reliable, is it the potential cost of repairing the head unit, the potential cost of repairing not only the head unit but maybe other parts, or can it even affect the driving and make it unsafe? I know little about cars but really like MINI, I have to decide if I should only look for MINIs that already have a camera or can I buy one without it and install an aftermarket one. Thank you so much for your help!
