Ah interesting... Well, I wonder if it has something to do with the H/K head unit? Everyone that I've talked to has the normal head unit, and it works great.

Well keep us posted and let us know what happens

Just installed one today and I had the same problems.

No headlights,
interior lights,
climate control,
sound from the radio,
and the key buzzer would not shut off!

This was one with a HK head unit, 2004. I am going to try an install one my Mini tomorrow, 2004 no HK. I guess this will be a good test to see if there is something with the HK head units.

Also, since I have 2, I did do the 2.03 firmware upgrade on the one ice link and not on the other. That one was shipped with 2.01 firmware. Both versions behaved the same. Well, I did get the headlights back when I plugged in the 2.01(shipped with) firmware

I will let you know tomorrow!

I just got an iPod for Christmas, is there any news on this, or are people still having problems? I really wanted this when I first read about it, but now people are having problems, and one of the original things they promised, text display on the head unit, seems to have been a lie/misunderstanding. Guess I'll have to start searching for another solution, what is everyone's opinion of the next best thing to this?

Well, it seems like people are mainly having problems with the HK head unit. I just got one for Christmas, and I have a regular stock head unit. I'll post up as soon as I get it installed.

Otherwise, you have the official iPod/MINI adapter from the factory, or something like the BlitzSafe or the iCruze from Monster. Those are all good options I hear...

SUCCESS!

This maybe premature, but I have the ice links working in both Mini's. I will see how the rest of the week goes, but so far so good.

I was installing the second on today on the standard headunit and check to make sure I did not miss anything from the first install. The first thing in the instructions is to disconnect the battery. Well, of course all instructions say that and like usual I ignore it. Well, this seems to be the most inportant step in the process. It is like rebooting.

I did not disconnect, I just pulled the 2 fuses for the radio. Waited a few minutes, connected the ice link, and put the fuses back in. The radio display shows disabled. So I turned the ignition off, disconnected the ice link, turned the ignition on, and then plugged the ice link back in. I had already loaded the firmware upgrade on this ice link, so I was good to go.

Then I decided to go back and reinstall the ice link in the mini with the HK headunit. Did the samething as above, but then installed the new firmware. Everything was ok. The unit is working great, minus the text display. And the car is working great!

So it seems the key is the battery disconnect, and the new firmware. I had been speaking with Tom at dension, so I called him to give him the good news. He said that even the professional installers are ignoring the battery disconnect.

I will run it for the rest of the week and post back the final out come.

That sounds great!

Anyone wanna go over how to disconnect the battery AND upgrade the firmware?

Then I'm almost ready to go with the install!

sunchaser, do you have MFSW? Does it control the tracks and volume like it's suppose to?

I'm curious on how it controls the IPOD, so you can just scroll by tracks but not the whole playlists, like by artists or albums?

Just to be clear for folks:

I DID disconnect the battery before connecting the IceLink Plus, and I STILL had the problems I described in earlier posts, problems which are not unique to me (See the companion to this thread on MINI2). Also, note this from the DensionUSA firmware update page:

"Note: Use only v2.02 firmware for BMW & MINI ! "

Perhaps if I had stayed with 2.02 I would have been OK, although there are those on MINI2 who still report problems even with 2.02.

There is currently NO support for ID3v2, and while at least one Dension rep has said it will not happen for Pre-05 MINIs (??), at least one other thinks it may be possible, given enough time. Take that as you will.

I thought I had it with 2.03, but the next morning, it started. By the end of the day it was system shut down!

Then I read the about the 2.02, and I loaded that today. Again, I hate to say it, but so far so good. I will see what happens over the next few days.

EliteCooperS, I just pulled the fuses to disconnect the radio. I believe they are F27 and F10, there are pictures on the fuse panel to verify it. The Firmware install you can go here... http://install.dension.com/updateil2.html
You will see the link for the firmware at the bottom of the page. Go with 2.02. At the top of the page, there is a link for Upgrade Guide, or you can click here... http://support.dension.com/downloads...date_Guide.pdf

If you need more help, let me know. The pdf is kinda like the install guide, vauge.

I just got off the phone with Tom @ dension, and he said that they have a mini in there and was able to recreate the problems. They now have all the data and are working to get it fixed. Once that is done, then they will focus on the ID3 text.

As far as the firmware at this point, he says to use 2.02. Now this does not work perfect, but it will work for the time. With this firmware you have 1 of 2 options. If you do not plan to disconnect the iPod, you can use the ice link in its normal mode. If you plan to remove it, then you need to switch ice link to work in the classic mode. When you remove the ice link in its normal mode, and disconnect and reconnect, it will do weird thinks. Nothing mini killing weird, just loose control of the ipod.

I have had the 2.02 in the car now for over 24 hours and the car is fine.

If you own the icelink or are planning to purchase (I don't since I don't have an ipod), the following thread may be interesting to you, or provide you with a little hope for displaying the idvx tags on the head unit:

Hey, for those of you who keep their iPods in their cars, how do they do in hot or cold weather? Do you all live in moderate climates? I'd be afraid to leave mine in if it's too hot or too cold.

I have installed it perfectly the way it should be done. I have reconnected the cables over and over, every time I go to use the iPod I cannot access the CD Changer mode!!!

Why can I not access the CD Changer mode?

Anyone know what I can do?

Try pulling the fuses a few times. I had the same issues and that is what forced me to disconnect the power. You may want to try turn the ignition off, disconnect and reconnect the ipod, then turn it back on again. I did this a few times. Then it appeared.

Not sure on that then. On my mini with the standard headunit i had to do it a few times to see it, the other with the HK only took twice.
