Yep, I got the British Male voice working, but I didn't like the "feel" of a man telling me what to do, so I went back to British Female.

One thing I've noticed only tonight regarding my upgrade from 1/20 to 1/42 is that using 'driving direction up' is that the map repositions itself when your position reaches approximately 2/3 the distance from the bottom to the top.

Previously, the "arrow" would go almost to the edge of the screen, and you couldn't see very far ahead on the map until the map repositioned itself. I'm very glad they've made the change.

I wish it was like the nav in my Honda Pilot that both north and driving direction rotate and scroll as you drive. In driving direction, the vehicle icon is in the middle and 2/3 of the way down the screen. In North, you are in the middle of the screen. I really dislike the driving direction on the Mini. It should scroll, not jump update as you near the top.

Well, at least it's better since my update... Did anyone notice this as well? Perhaps they updated this feature after 1/20 and before 1/42.

2004-2 Dvd

Did anyone figure out if the 2004-2 ISO on the X5 site works with the MINI nav system? I am downloading it right now, but at this rate (15 KB/s on broadband) it won't be done for a while.

Is that on the ftp site? I can't seem to access it right now. If it's Navteq, I'm sure it will work.

I did read somewhere on this board that if your MINI dealer registered your NAV for you with Navteq, you are entitled to one update DVD (or CDs) for "free". Has anyone been able to verify this?

I called my dealer (MINI Center San Antonio) the other day and they said that I don't get a free update. I have a 2004 with the DVD unit. Hopefully the one I'm downloading will work. I will let you guys know, unless someone beats me to it.

Well, I guess the FTP site is down now. It canceled my download about halfway.

It may not be down, I had it do that to me a number of times when I was downloading the DVD ISO as well as the firmware update ISO. Just try reconnecting, and it may also be full when you try to reconnect so you may need to try a bunch of times (but don't try a bunch of times too quickly in succession - wait 30 seconds between each or they will ban your IP for 24 hours). Patience is the name of the game with this server.

Add me to the success list.

Thanks for all the tips on finally getting a brit voice for my baby.

I successfully downloaded NAV_SW_v24_1_fbrit.iso and burned it to a CD using Toast 6 on Mac OS X 10.3.7. For those intersted I burned the disc (48x rated) at 36x speed with no error or verification problems.

I removed my original DVD from my 2004 MCS, placed the CD in the drive, clicked OK when prompted and watched the progress bar update me from 4-1/20 to the new upgrade.

Once completed I clicked OK as instructed and watched it reboot. As I watched, I placed the DVD back in the drive and everything works.

Things I lost: Saved addresses and Last Destinations.
Things I gained: A british voice complete with "motorways" and "roundabouts" ... EXACTLY what I wanted. :-D

Thanks again everyone. You guys rock!

So what happens if MINI replaces my Nav unit?

I've got a Mk III system, that since delivery has been in "no location" mode. I've never had a nag screen, and was always in yards, and never knew any better! When I heard that some people were getting nag screens I decided not to upgrade my firmware, just in case an upgrade triggered the nag screen.

Our system also has that tendancy to "freeze" on really cold mornings. The monitor stays off until the car warms up, the system will start up if you restart the car after it has warmed up. From what I understand the fix is to replace the system (although I could be mistaken here). However, again because I haven't had the nag screen, I've avoided doing anything about this.

But now that the Mk III's haven't been installed in new vehicles for just shy of 2 years, what would my unit be replaced with if I brought it in? A "new" Mk III or a MK IV like I was originally told I'd be getting when I ordered my car (don't ask )?

There was a MINI at MINI Peabody early this year with a "problem" nav as reported by the owner - problems never repeatable by techs, who suspected owner was pushing to be upgraded to the DVD version.
But they told me that they could *not* replace a CD version with a DVD version under warranty ... they would not be covered by MINI USA for the costs.

Were you able to download the full ISO file? Did it work?

This was my experience as well. My nav system had a total loss of GPS function, repeatable by the dealership. They first replaced the antenna with no luck. Finally, they replaced the nav control unit unit under the passenger seat with a refurbished unit identical to my original one. I requested they upgrade me to the DVD unit, but no luck.

I did download the whole thing but haven't had the time to try it yet. I'm sure it'll work though.

***GB MALE
I did the GB Male Voice upgrade for one of our c3 members yesterday. It acted a bit strange at first. The Settings--Loudness setting showed it worked fine. But when we programmed in a location, and clicked on INSTRUCTION while the car was parked it stayed silent--not saying--Please proceed to the ...."

But then the owner took the car out for a spin, and came back with a huge smile saying her MINI was now speaking GB Male!

My MKIV Nav also had the same issues. I lost my MINI logo upon start up, sometimes the screen would be blank for many minutes. These problems went away after I updated from the original 4-1/12 software to the latest 4-1/40.

Before the update, I asked my dealer about this, and they said they had no idea, but had heard of similar complaints from other people.

OctaneGuy,
I just wanted to thank you for going through the effort to burn a CD for me to try the upgrade on the MKIII.
Although I had no luck with the GB Female upgrade, it was fun tinkering with the Nav!

Hey we tried! Thanks for letting me give it a shot. If I find something more, I'll let you know.

Ok, my nav is FINALLY fixed! In case you haven't read all 7 pages yet my v24 cd with the language name swap messed up my MKIII nav computer, it went completely blank and would not eject the cd at all. I brought it in to the dealer after 250 pushes of the eject button and turning the car off and on and disconnecting the battery, etc. Hank Aaron said they could not fix it, they would have to send it into BMW and BMW would in turn charge $1000 to send me a new nav computer (that is what he said atleast). So I decided it was time to take apart the MINI (well at least part of it ). So I took the seat out and disasembled the nav computer (breaking the warrenty seal) and used 4 knifes to gently coax the "bad" cd out and put the new one (unmodded v24 cd) in. It worked.

I am going to do a full how-to with plenty of pics on how to do it soon. I will post a link to the new thread here as well.

I love perseverance Nothin better than a challenge..."Oh Yeah! I'll FIX YOU" American attitude

Anyone know how to get Terri Hatcher or Eva Longoria's voice files into the Nav?

feet to yards after downgrade/upgrade.

Hi,

For those who have done the downgrade then upgrade to get rid of the "accept" screen, are you able to select metric measurements? ie. l/100km etc...?

Thx.
