Navigation & Audio Flashed My Sat Nav System Tonight
Just PM me your address and I'll get ya taken care of. I'm a little behind on sending out the discs I have promised---but 3 are going out today to various people.

OK...I tried my disk with all the Spanish audio and text files swapped for the GB ones. No change at all...the voice was still Spanish and the text was still spanish. Has anyone been able to get the spanish audio to update with the GB voice? I am wondering if the Nav looks at the selected language and only updates the active one (The update mentions USA during the progress bar update but nothing else). (MKIV 2005 system)

keddell,
Perhaps I can be of some help. I live in Rancho Santa Margarita - just down the road and around the corner from Irvine. We can meet up Sunday morning 7AM at the Spectrum ferris wheel where there will be a meet up for the Toys for Tots run.

Too late. LOL. I met up with Joe about an hour ago and fixed his NAV, so now everything's working and he's got the British Female voice.
Rather interesting observation though. He's got a March '03 MCS with the DVD Nav, but he's in yards, and has no accept screen--which would lead me to believe that somehow it got updated at some point--however, he says it's always been like that.
Also something strange is that we saw a BMW logo loaded instead of the MINI logo--after doing the CD update--which he had never seen before.
Another thing that was pointed out, and something I never noticed, when you go to Onboard Settings--and go to the screen to adjust the settings, does it say Board Computer instead of Onboard computer??? I never noticed that, but mine says that as well.

Have yout tried renaming all the files so that they all update. The USA to E, the E to F, the F to USA, etc? Sure the audio and text won't match, but at least we would be on to something...
you're welcome!! It was a pleasure meeting you.

Help Me
hey, I have the MKIII cd based system and I tried to switch the voices around (i didn't realize that ALL MkIII are not working with the moded ISO) so I got the blank screen. Well, now I burnt a un-modded v24 cd and put it in the nav slot but nothing happens. the screen stays blank but i hear the drive making it little "reading" noises. The key is in the 1st or 2nd (i tried both). What am I doing wrong.
Nope
well I just drove around the block, parked and tried to get the unmodded cd out (it hasn''t come out since I put it in, it will not eject) to no avail. I managed to get the moded cd out without much trouble, I just kept pushing eject. But now I am worried
What should I do. My screen is blank and the cd will not come out!

Also, if it's a 2004-2 DVD, then that means that it's not an official MINI DVD (i.e. it's a BMW DVD). I was wondering if the BMW discs would work in the MINI nav system. I would guess that they are identical (as the nav computer itself is the same) and so it should work just fine. Have you been able to confirm this yet?
Thanks again for the info...
Paperclip

Don't CD drives have the old paperclip-in-hole mechanical eject feature?

Now, even with the DVD back in, and the drive whirring and buzzing, I get zip, zilch, nada, in any language...

I believe that Joe has his unit fixed now, but for others who may run into a bad problem when upgrading the firmware, it appears that a nav faliure during firmware upgrade is a known problem. Here's a blurb I found about how to fix the failure (note that I did not write this and I've never tested it - I'm only posting it as an FYI):
This will require a service technician with access to a DIS or MoDiC tool to perform.
A configuration signal is required to allow the nav computer to load the correct software for its respective application. This is generated by using DIS coding program "Coding ZCS C24.0" and the Navigation System operating software CD:
1. Connect DIS/MoDiC 3 tester to vehicle
2. From the DIS Coding/Programming select "1 ZCS Coding"
3. Select appropriate engineering series (E38, E39, etc.)
4. Select "4 conversion"
5. Select "3 IKE/Kombi"
6. Select "2 Language"
7. At prompt "Is the CD-ROM present?" - select "Yes", but do not insert CD into the Nav Computer yet!
8. First select the main language and then an additional language (the choices are: English, French, Italian, Spanish, German)
9. Select announcer's voice gender: male or female
10. After activation of the automatic coding, the DIS tester tells you to follow the instructions on the monitor for CD installation
11. Place the CD in the navigation computer CD drive Important: Do not switch ignition OFF during software loading procedure. Do not use any other Nav Software CD's except CD.
12. Once loading has been completed, remove the CD and then confirm completion by pressing the rotary push-button on the monitor
13. Turn ignition OFF for 10 seconds, then turn it ON and conduct a functional check
14. After this step has been finished, encode the navigation computer in the regular manner using the path "1 Recoding"

PM me your address--although since you're in LA, we can probably also meet. I can provide CD's for you as I did for Keddell today.
Right now I'm asking for people to help support an Autism Charity my club c3 (Cooper Club for Charities) is doing with a $10 donation in exchange for 2 CD's (one with the British voice, and one for restoring back to normal if needed)
You don't HAVE to write a check for $10, to get the CD's, btw.

More Observations
I'm looking at the contents of my DVD--2003-1 and I see that it only supports English, Spanish, and French. Further poking around reveals that the files on there are language specific.
I'm wondering if it's possible to reset the E-Spanish button to a different voice with the Enlish language set or not.
Also, I made a Netherlands CD. There is only 1 NL file, so I used the GB_Female Language File and the NL Voice file and as expected, it spoke in NL and displayed everything in English.
I also made a GB Male CD and it works perfectly as well.
Finally I tried taking the Nero ISO and converting it to a standard ISO that I could then burn with Roxio, but no go. The resulting CD was NOT readable by my NAV.

The NL File is actually on the update ISO. There is only one file unlike the GB Female that has both a TSF and CSF, so I wasn't sure which ones to modify--so I took a chance, and used the GB File for the Language--though I assume it doesn't really matter.
It's under the V_2/Voices/0502 there is an NL_F.CSF---that's the Audio files for the Netherlands.

Great..I didn't catch that last night.
Is anyone a little disappointed with the GB voice? She seems so much more unnatural than our American counterpart. It almost seems that the American one has longer wav files and probably fewer files on disk, whereas the British one seems to take words from different wav files and strings them together to make a phrase.
