does NBT EVo hardware version makes any difference??
Please excuse my ignorance, Im here learning... I've read somewhere in this forum that you cannot get CARPLAY or have the newest touchscreen interface on NBT Evo with HW 3.2.... but I'm saw in this post that 6ft6 seems to had updated his 3.1 unit...
so what is the advantages of 3.1 vs 4.1? I'm working on this retrofit and I want to understand how all this works... Im reading stuff like crazy. note that I'm also trying to achieve the UI from newer cars...
Can all that be done in a unit HW3.1?? please see the image below to understand what I mean by new user interface

Update
Dont worry, I noticed from one of your previous posts that you got it coded in Bulgaria and was plug and play.
Do you think they can remotely code from Bulgaria?.

Reason: incomplete information
Yes it makes a difference. The older 2.x mini versions have smaller ram and caused issues for retrofitting (reboots etc), there is one person I know who has successfully retrofitted a 2.x version without reboots.
The newer mini 3.x versions have more memory and ideal for retrofitting (CarPlay etc), you do have to choose the correct sub version for touch screen or not.
Then there are the BMW versions that don’t have the gps antenna port but can be converted, you will however need to get an ATM module.
Best bet is to search for a headunit that’s not below hw version 3.1 for headache free retrofitting.
Hello,
I LOVE your project. And I am trying to look up for parts online. I am totally amateur on mod. Please help me out. Do I get this?
and the cable & antenna? I tried to understand the whole process...what do I need to do if I have a crappy radio like yours and upgrade like your project (step to step guide please)?
I am sorry if I missed anything. BIG THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!
Thanks for the reply... sorry it took me a while but I've been waiting for my parts to arrive.... i think my head unit should be 4.1, although unfortunately I bought my parts from a seller overseas he has good rep on eBay but package seems to be delayed or lost.. Im not worried because my purchase is protected....
but I have a curious question: does anybody knows if I were to order a headunit from miniparts.com do they configure the unit for my VIN?

If you mean minipartsdirect.com they won’t. You will need to go to the dealer or do it yourself/3rd party. That was when I checked a while back, email them and find out.
Hey there, i just bought all the needed parts but are struggeling to get everything working. You may could answer me a few questions? That would be great
Hello, how did you make the connection for the audio controller? any adapter?
These parts are what I needed as I had the regular radio, if you already visual boost, which is the 6.5" display, the cost will be less and less work will be required.

Most of my cables worked without changing anything except for the USB in my case i had to buy a different cable OEM, generics didn't work for me (not for the lack of trying)… im personally not aware there are adapters but i might wrong
another observation during my process is that you can try to use your same cables if you dont mind filling some grooves in the conectors but there is lot room for mistake.

If U buy the HeadUnit from the OEM website, it will still not work becoz you need something called a ?FSC code that dictates to your car computer to integrate the new equipment to itself.BMW will sell this code for a bomb to you and your dealer will also make a lot of money.
I upgraded my basic media head unit by purchasing a pre-configured for my VIN Head Unit from eBay. The only drawback by choosing this route will be that the HeadUnit will be delicate, meaning that you cannot casually update or code or flash this head unit becoz the system computer that was earlier tricked may wake up and brick your hardware. The advantage with this route is that it will work and will not cost a kidney or lung to execute the project.

Hello, I have the basic screen, and I do not have the cable that controls the buttons to control the volume etc.
Took a while getting all the parts and putting this together, but finally was able to finish. Upgraded my simple crappy radio for the new Mini system with the touchscreen.
Hi All,
Great retrofit. I am in the process of doing the same, but I bought the NBT not the NBT Evo and have a couple of question:
1. Same question as Frmodule3r: how did you get the under screen buttons to work? I have the 8 pin connector, it came with my screen, but the wires are cut. How did you build it?
2. The NBT unit is larger than the basic radio and doesn't fit in the opening behind the screen. Did you have to cut it out or is there an installation kit? if you had to cut it out what and how did you cut it? Trying to make min damage to the car
@mrabie@Frmodule3r Sorry for the late reply and maybe you already figured it out by now but what I did was to use that 8 pin connector with the wiring to tap into the 4 pin that goes into the air conditioning unit. On the right of the image there is part S170 which is the 4 pin and on the left it is the audio buttons and the air conditioning. On the 8 pin plug 4 and 8 are the same so those tap into wire 4 of the air unit, 1 and 5 go to 1, 6 and 2 go to 2 and 7 and 3 go to 3. I hope that makes sense! Once you have wired that you wanna make sure you do the VO coding for the air conditioning telling it that you now have the NBT Evo so that all the buttons work.

@minicooperjp thanks for the info, really helpful. 1 more question please, what coding do we have to do? I am new to the coding world
Thanks.. Happy New Year

i pretty interested on doing the same that you did. i have the crappy radio but whenever i try look for the part numbers most of them wont show. Also i was checking on other post that this retrofit was specialy difficult cause the basic radio bracket on the dash is diferent to the one for the screened radio. is this true? does anyone knows someone that build the whole kit from basic radio to nbt evo touchscreen+AA+Carplay?

Hello,
How did you manage to fit NBT Evo inside dash board? Dash board for radio basic is narrow than dash board for NBT Evo. Did you cut the metal arms of NBT Evo, or cut some plastics inside dash board in order to fit. Please explain what have you done to fit BNT Evo in. If you cut some plastics inside dash board, please indicate which ones and where.
Thank you in advance,
Marius
There is someone above who showed how they cut their dash, I had a temporary fix since I ended up replacing my whole dashboard, but I mounted sideways and worked well for the 1.5-2 years I had it like that.

Thank you for sharing!
The user above cut a dash already suitable for NBT Evo, I still wonder why. Perhaps he used a thicker unit.
