MINI Connected Software Update - Issues with Apps
I brought my 2016 F55 S in for service last month, and it included a MINI Connected Software Update that took several hours to install. I've noticed a few changes, and the following three problems are incredibly frustrating. I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing similar problems with the update, and if anyone has an suggestions.
When I turn on my MINI, I connect my iPhone SE (iOS 11.2) to my MINI Connected system (v. MB/TB-001.058.001) with the USB cord, and the following occurs:
1) iPhone MINI Connected App (v. 7.0.1.967) forces the MINI's navigation system to automatically open a prompt window to navigate to the last destination I searched for in the iPhone app.
This is a nuisance because: I don't want or need to use the Nav system every single time I get in my MINI, and I certainly don't want to navigate to the same place that I last searched for over and over again (whether that was 2 hours or 2 weeks ago). I have saved the two places I Nav to most often as one of the 6 "save" buttons under the Nav screen (took me a few months to realize I could do that).
Bottom line: I don't want the Nav prompt everytime I plug my iPhone in.
2) The Pandora (v. 1711.2.1) and Stitcher (v. 8.0.6.63063) apps automatically open on my iPhone. Stitcher begins playing through the audio system automatically.
This is a nuisance because: I don't always want to listen to a podcast when I drive. I more often want to listen to music, but Stitcher overrides everything at start up. This was so annoying that after a couple of weeks I just deleted the app.
BUT, BUT, BUT, with the new MINI Connected software update and with Stitcher deleted, now Pandora auto-launches at startup, overrides the audio system, AND prevents me from selecting any other music on my iPhone. iPhone playlists are completely inaccessible through the MINI Connected menu with Pandora on. The only way to get that back is to manually close the Pandora app on the phone.
Bottom line: MINI Connected should default to the last audio source that was used the last time the car was on...just like it does when the phone isn't plugged in.
3) TuneIn / TuneIn Pro (v. 13.0.1) no longer functions in the MINI Connected system. It is not even listed anymore in the MINI Connected menu:
When I select "More apps", the screen says: "To switch to your other 'MINI Connected' apps, your smartphone must be unlocked and a 'MINI Connected' app must be open.
BUT when I unlock my phone, and open the TuneIn app, TuneIn recognizes that it is plugged into the MINI, which prevents me from operating it (heads down) on the iPhone because I should be operating it from the MINI Connected TuneIn menu (heads up). The iPhone screenshot in this situation here:
If I disconnect the iPhone from the USB port, I can operate TuneIn Radio manually and stream it through Bluetooth, but the Connected functionality is completely absent.
Bottom line: The MINI Connected Software update is incompatible with the newest version of TuneIn Pro.
Again, if any of you are having a similar experience or have any suggestions, I would appreciate hearing your comments. In my 18 months as a MINI owner I have experienced amazing customer support...EXCEPT when it comes to the MINI Connected system. The dealer has no answers, and the MINI Connected support website is incredibly limited.
Thanks, Shaun.

That is weird behavior indeed!
There are two MINI Connected apps for iOS, "MINI Connected Classic" and "MINI Connected". Whichever one you are using, give the other a try and see how it works for you. (I prefer the "Classic" because it enables the Forceometer app.)
The other thing to try is deleting the MINi Connected app(s) from your phone and then reinstalling. This will clear out any of their old data and preference files and let you start fresh. It's possible the app just didn't handle the upgrade to the car's end of things properly.
Give these a try and let us know how it goes!

The newest MINI Connected app seems to not work with the pre March 2018 production cars, so this is your only option:
