Alright, I have been reading about this XM radio install and I am confused. Sorry u gotta understand that I am not familiar with all the terms and parts needed. I currently have an 05 mcs on order with the standard cd stereo. Could someone tell me what I need to get XM. Also, will it help to get the Aux input installed prior to delivery? From what I gather, I need a receiver (skifi 2) ? then I need the blitzsafe interface and the cradle? Is this correct? Is the aux input of any use with this set up? Thanks.

There are two components to the kit. One is the receiver that receives the sat stuff (xm direct) and the other is the unit that controls it..blitzsafe. In the right side of the boot there is a panel that is removable and in there are some wires that are taped together and one of the has a connector that plugs into the blitzsafe. It's by itself so you won't be confused if you look at the bundle.

With the xm direct plugged into the blitzsafe you can received sat radio and control it from the multifunction buttons on your steering wheel. The blitzsafe has two models..one with an extra port and one without. The one with the extra port will allow you to control the cd changer from the steering wheel controls. I haven't research which changers work. That's another topic. Both of the components will fit inside the panel area on the right side of the boot. It will take about half an hour or so. There are some pics on here which show most of everything I mentioned.

Hopefully, I haven't confused you more!

Oh, and you won't need the aux port or a cradle...everything is there.

Thanks meanboy. I think I follow u so far. I guess I would get the blitzsafe with the extra port (why not), and seems easy enough to install in the boot; however, what do i do with the receiver? How does this get installed or wired up? Where in the vehicle does the receiver go? See I told u I know nothing about this

More info for you...the xm direct fits in the right side of the boot with the blitzsafe. There is a small antenna that plugs into the xm direct and the xm direct attaches to the blitzsafe via rca patch cables. It's real easy to install. The hardest part was getting both of them in the side of the boot with the HK Amp taking up so much room. I used velcro to attach the xm directly to the side of the amp and the blitzsafe to the rear fender well. I did this because I didn't have any doublestick tape. The antenna cable will require you to remove the rubber grommet near the top of the hatch and slip the cable into it. I removed the seal of the boot and pulled the cable to the xm direct. Plugged everything in and activated it via the web. I think there is a promo code somewhere here so you don't need to pay the activation fee.

Have I confused you now?

Ok, so the xm receiver also goes in the boot with the interface. I assume their is no need to see the receiver since the original hu displays all the info and the mfsw controls work. Is this right?

I would say that the receiver doesn't need to be seen again once you tuck it away. The headunit will display the channel and the info button will show the artist and name of the song. The mfsw will control the presets but you will have to manually scroll through the channels with the button on the headunit if you want to intially find the stations. Otherwise, it always goes back to channel 1. Kinda of a pain in that respect.

Xm MFSW Functionality

Hi to all-

Just a little on the XM. The so called "dead button" on the left side of the wheel is actually used. When you press and hold for a sec or two, it will display the station you are on. The head unit display will then start to scroll through all the genres that XM has. When you see one you like, i.e. Decades, hit the button again. You will be on the first station of that genre. Now, to switch stations and not presets, hold the up or down button and it will start to go through all of the station channels. All w/out ever having to touch the head unit.

I have to try that out again because it didn't seem to do anything when I pressed it in the past. But I don't recall how long I held it down for.

I held down the button and the name seems to appear but nothing else happens. If you press either button on the left while holding it down nothing happens. When you hit the button and hold it down and then release and move the buttons it only goes to the presets. I can't seem to get it to do anything. It's dead in our car.:smile::smile:

Question for you whitleyone-

My dead button, does what you describe, to a point. When I press it, it initially shows the channel number for the channel I'm on then will start the scroll through the genres. When I see the one I want to hear, I press it again and it stops the scroll. What I can't seem to do, is then advance through those station in that genre, it always goes to the next preset after where I was before the "genre scroll".

Any help, or more correctly, what am I doing wrong??

Also has anyone been able to get the station info to scroll or the song or artist to remain displayed? I can cycle through it by pressing the INF button a few times. I can get the "Scroll On" to display on the head unit by pressing and holding the INF button, and it indicates that scroll on, is on by the "*INF" being displayed, but nothing scrolls

BTW, some times eBay is very, very good!

I too have no functionality from the left center button on the MFSW. I have a 2003 (Jan, 2003 build) Cooper. I wonder if this was added on at some point?

I will give $50.00 to the first person who can make an easy solution to the non-scrolling artist/song issue! Do this and you will be imortalized in the Mini Hall of Fame (insert trumpet sounds here....) .

Can't be after, maybe before. I have a 02, but the head unit is out of a 2003, the radio is marked 9/02.

I've figured out how to scroll within genre, you must press the center left button while using the up/down on the left side.

It's almost as hard to do as:

1. While lifting your right foot a few inches off the floor, rotate it in a clockwise circle.
2. Draw the number 6 in the air with your right hand.

Did your foot continue the CW circle? Yea, it's that hard, at least for me.

I'll also throw some cash into the pot for the first person who can make an easy solution to the non-scrolling artist/song issue!

I don't have an EASY solution yet. Mine involves having a computer in the boot with the appropriate interface and an XMPCR (though the XMDirect would be a trivial software change to implement).

I'll be sure to let everyone know if I ever get an easy version done...

Can't see why it wouldn't. They list all 2006 MINI - Sat ready vehicles.

So where you going to put the antenna?

Question for you folks that have done this install. When running the antenna wire through the large grommet for the hatch cable loom out on to the roof there is now obviously some space between the grommet and the roof. What about water? Has anyone had any issues with moisture getting in there?

Would a solution be to run a small notch to accomodate the cable? Seems obvious to me but maybe I am missing something.

When running the wire make sure you run it through the bottom of the gromit. I did this about a year ago and my mini is outside 24 hours a day and been through several severe storms, snow rain, etc., no problems with water. Just do not run the wire through at the top of the gromit and you will be ok.

Did you notch the grommit when running it out the bottom? Do you have a picture you could post?

Sorry no pictures, but no u don't have to notch the gromit at all. The antenna wire is thin and if u run it through at the bottom water can't get in. I had teh same questions u have when I thought about doing this. So I checked some posts and was given the same advise. Even after the install I would periodically check to see if the headliner was wet especially after a heavy rain. No water what so ever got in. Run the wire through at the six oclock position, push the gromit back in and you shouldn't have a problem.

I've had my installation at the 12 O'clock position since day 1 without any water coming in. So it's been two rain seasons without any water seeping in. The fit is very tight againt the grommet.
