No volume on aux input
Hi all,
I tried out my new aux input today with my Creative Normad Zen mp3 player and got almost no volume out of it. The only searches I could find mentioned the aux level selector (mine is on 5 rt now) and the player's volume (mine is on full) as possible issues - which seemed to work for the other owners. The aux input currently goes in through the headphone jack (which is hopefully the reason why it sounds almost mono).
I can't imagine that the aux jack is ipod only, so I must be missing something. Even on the max input level and max stereo and player volume, the sound gets drowned out by the engine at idle.
Any ideas out there?

Hmm...Volume on player is up. Volume on stereo is up and nothing. Odd, I got the ipod working just fine. Is it possible the connection of the aux input cable isn't making a good connection?
I'd like to think that it was installed correctly. I work at an electronics store and the guys in our car audio department put it in for me.
If I can't come up with a better solution, I'll pull everything apart and take a look, though. Trouble is, finding the time to do it.

many players "trash" the headphone jack signal to keep you from destroying your ears. Is there a volume limiter setting on your player?
Not sure about your player, but w/ my iPod I use a Belkin car adapter which has a line out signal -- purer and unattenuated. Does yours offer that option?
Also, do you have the treble & bass set higher than the default on you AUX mode? the H/K will limit the volume if this is the case to protect itself.

Grab some other device that has a stereo headphone jack - a CD walkman, for example, and connect this through your aux port. See if it has a higher volume. If so, it's the fault of your player (though it honestly should not matter).
Also, if you are powering your player through a cigaret lighter adaptor, temporarily remove it and run soley on batteries, with only the aux cable connected. Some players don't like being powered by the car at the same time connecting their outputs into the same car's circuitry. The lighter shares the common negative ground with the aux cable outer shell - occasionally the player does not like these two to be tied together.
Also double check your cable, make sure it's a stereo cable that does not contain any attenuating circuitry inside (this would be the case with a cable designed for 'recording').

I have a Zen Xtra mp3 player hooked to an aux jack in my MINI as well. I had to crank up the volume on the mp3 player in order to play it with the car stereo at a normal volume. I've connected several different players and audio devices up to it and they all needed to be turned up pretty loud.
