Stock stereo and iPhone 5S in 2005 MCS

Hi guys - need some advice

Just purchased a second hand 2005 MCS which has an older style iPod/iPhone 30-pin adapter added to the stock stereo. I grabbed a 30-pin to lightning adapter which hooked up my iPhone 5S audio fine, but it doesn't charge the device.

I am not sure if this is a limitation of the stock stereo, the particular iPad/iPhone kit that was used, or the lightning adapter.

Has anyone got any advice on whether its even possible to hook up an iPhone 5S to the stock stereo on a 2005 MCS to get audio AND charging?

Thanks for any tips!

If you have the OEM Ipod adapter, they didn't charge, just played. Belkin makes an adapter that the Aux-In plugs into which plugs into the lighter to charge the ipod, but I don't recall any OEM solution for charging. There are also multiple other ipod adapters, but they all had their warts.

Thanks, maybe I'll just get a lighter charger and do normal line in to the stereo. I assume I can do normal audio socket input from the headphone out on the iPhone? Guess I'll need another adapter though...?

Yep, that's what they call the 'Aux-in' cable for the OEM head unit.

you could check out the Denison and Mediabridge adaptors that use the 6CDC input too.

old apple 30 pin vs new apple 30 pin (looks the same)

2005 30 pin plug, and others like my 2008 mini convertible, is set for old apple standard. The power is on Pin A, (not sure of true letter, just example) after iPhone 3, apple changed power to pin B. Using a 30 pin to lighting connector will only work if you add an additional connector to convert old 30 pin to new 30 pin. It pass all connectors straight through except power. It changes that from A pin to B pin. ( once again, not sure of true pin Letter or number)

The Part I have that works is DockStubz+, from cable Jive. $27 +/-.

Charge, play into stereo and control from steering wheel will all work.

Apple made this quite change because they were pushing the Thunder standard to move info and it had power in a different location. But they gave into to USB which forced them to move the location of the power. They didn't make to much noise about the change, but down the road it has left a lot of people lost.
