Custom Iphone dock install

Got the idea from this:

Wanted to upgrade to a better system than the stock radio and a Garmin Nuvi.

Picked up a 2013 "Mini Connected" Speedo from ebay $150. $20 of fiberglass resin and fiberglass mesh from WalMart.

I routed the Mini Iphone cable in the dash and can charge and fully access the phone thru the original radio- until I can find something better.

This is a work in progress until I find something that works and looks like it belongs.

Feel free to chime in, not many people have done custom installs for Mini and Mini doesn't make it easy.

I dissected the factory Boost CD radio. I removed the CD player part of it to relocate it into the dash so it will fit better. No error codes pop up and the radio didn't care that the "CD" portion and controller board were gone. Note: don't be afraid of the ribbon cables. There is a release for the main silver cable- a little black latch. The other grey one just slips in.

This way I can have the factory Bluetooth, and steering wheel controls and the factory warning chimes all still working.

I am trying the Metra 2 din install kit to see if it can get it to look good.

Like I said, work in progress.

Before and after. I still have to make a faceplate cover to make it look cleaner. This was just a project to play with but was only about $200 total including the 2013 Speedo from ebay.

Did the speedo work right away? Did you have to flash it with NCS?

Speedo was plug and play. No flash needed.

Wow! Looks great!

Do you plan to install any type of cover around the speedo needle?
