Aux Jack issues
I've had my 2007 r56 for about 6 months now and have never used the aux jack until yesterday. Connected my phone to it and selected it as the source on my radio. Music started playing...after a few minutes, I realized that I could only hear part of the music...basically I could the instruments but not the voices. Played around with the settings, swapped out the cable, even tried a different device. Any ideas before I start opening things up? I don't know if the jack is bad or maybe somethings loose.
Thanks

Sounds like something needs to be pushed in further. Cable to phone? Cable to Aux? Aux to Head unit? If you have a phone case make sure it does interfere with the connection. I've had a case that looked good, but it kept the cable from making full connection, there had to be less than a millimeter of case material doing it, but once I removed the case and inserted the cable and voilà! It worked
I verified the cable (both cables that I tried) where pushed in all the way on both ends. My phone doesn't have a case and I also tried with ipod that didn't have a case...same results. My thoughts are that it's the jack itself or the cabling between it and the head unit.
I encountered a similar problem with my workplace computer and an old set of headphones. The jack on the headphones is similar to the one on the MINI AUX connector (1/8-in). My 'easy' solution in that case was to actually pull the plug out a bit until I got all of the sound. The ultimate solution became a new set of headphones...
But not seating the jack all the way into the receptacle is probably worth a try in your case. It definitely sounds like something somewhere is not making good contact, and I'd be suspicious of the Y-connector before anything else. If it's like mine, it tends to get stowed inside the glovebox, where it can get bent into all kinds of interesting shapes -- which does nothing for the soldered connections on the jacks...

I had the same problem, the music sounded but there was no bass. I found the y-cable with the headphone type jack side had a short in it. If i wiggled the wire the sound would come in. I got a new cable and the new one is working.
Well, I pulled things apart, and tested the cables...ohm checked all the cables and no shorts. Ordering a new aux port...will post if that was it or not.

Just an update. The aux jack module was bad. This part did the trick.
