Dead radio head r55 mcs 2009

Hey guys just want to pick your brains, have the above with 53k on the clock just been serviced by the dealer and got them to confirm the radio head is dead. Before I had checked all the fuses, including the one at the rear of the radio.. All ok.
We'll the dealer confirmed it and said they would fit another for $700... I thought thats a nice of them! I know things break and have a shelf life but don't you think that's a bit premature for a failure? Do you think I have any recourse with Mini... Or just take it on the nose? I could get another and fit it myself...it's just the principle of it.. I could understand if it had 100k plus and 10 years old... But 5 years!.. Appreciate your fed back.. I will try them during the week and see where I get... Wish me luck!

It can't hurt to contact mini and plead your case, not much to lose. However, I'd be willing to bet they aren't going to replace the radio for free. I don't think even the extended warranty will cover the radio..

One would think your head unit would last longer then that! I would give it a try and see if you cant get something from them. maybe a 50/50 type deal where you would just pay half. Even though I do feel it should be 100% covered . Good luck!

Mine failed within the first year. The rear park sensors are tied to it, which is what failed first, then the entire thing died.

Hi guys, Thought I would update you reference my radio problems.
Well I contacted the dealer and asked if we could come to a deal re getting it fixed. I was expecting to have to suck it up or at least pay 50%.... Amazingly they said they would replace it as a onetime goodwill gesture.
I was a year out of warranty and at 53k miles.
As promised I took it in they replaced it and programmed it in and it's working great. Ironically I bought one off the internet for a good price... We will see how long this one lasts.
So I guess the answer is to contact your dealer ( peanut61) and see what they can do.
My dealer was schomp of Denver. Good luck.
