Audioupgrade in Clubman 2011 with Boost, am I thinking right?
Hi!
Im new here and piched up my black Clubman D 2011 a couple of weeks ago.
I've been reeding a lot here and there's tons of information and mods to do.
After reading the two big audio upgrade threads I have an idea for my car and have a bunch of questions and want to know if its possible or im all off the track.
My car is equipped with with Boost radio and my plans is as follows:
1. Hijack the stereo outputs by using a front/rear channel swap cable.
2. Connect the highlevel outputs to the highlevel input at a 5-ch amp anw wire it up.
Is there gonna be any problem with this? I've read about balanced uotput och various bmw forums but does this apply on the boost stereo?
3. Change speakers in front door, is 2-ch front system enough or is 3-ch recomended?
4. Change the rear 6x9 speakers.
5. Is the standard cables good enough to handle 50wrms or is it necessary to ges some new better ones?
6. Build a subwoofer box in the spare tyres space or build something in the left clubdoor.
What do the experts say, is this a good way to get better sound?
No hardware in decided yet so all comments and tips will be considered.
Regards
Emanuel

Hi Emanuel
Right, so you have the boost radio, is that the one without the screen?
Using a high level input should be pretty straight forward but dont know about the problems with the balance issues.
The front speakers, do you have tweeters in the A pillars or not? Changing them, I would recommend a nice 2 way component set, dont bother with 3 way as setting that up would be a lot trickier than a 2 way. So you would buy a 6.5" component set, and ideally install the tweeters in the A pillars.
Dont bother wiring or changing the rear 6x9 speakers, just disconnect them.
If you are adding an amp, then its best to wire in new speaker cables and leave the existing oem cables alone, I would never use the oem cables to power anything (you can but it means cutting into them and if you amp is pretty powerful its not the best connection).
A subwoofer in the boot would be better than in the clubdoor. Ive thought about subs in the either the clubdoor or the rear doors themselves, however they will rattle pretty bad unless its very very very well sound deadened, then its the issue of not enough volume of space for the sub to sound amazing. Maybe have a look at some 6x9 subs, Genesis made some a few years ago and were pretty impressive from what Ive heard.
I have a Clubman too, and im slowly planning an install, however I have the sat nav screen and the HK speakers, so its a bit more difficult than yours :(
Ill be interesting to see what you have done.
Thanks
Baz
