Nav speedo/aftermarket stereo?

Hi all, new to the forum but hoping to get some info from you knowledgable folks. Just recently acquired a 2011 r57 and I've replaced the speakers but I don't like the placement for an aftermarket stereo. Has anyone attempted a nav speedo with an aftermarket double din touchscreen DVD unit? Does the speedo even plug into a non nav car? Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

Your 2011 is a 2nd gen, this is the first gen section.

Also, are you saying you want to get a nav unit speedo and then somehow get a double DIN to fit into that hole?

Once we know these things we can then begin to talk about wiring and the ribbon cable you will need to order to make the car's computer that it attached to the speedo still work with the radio and such.

In the right forum now, it got reported this afternoon. If you notice it in other threads just report it with a note of where it belongs. Mods don't catch everything so sometimes prompting to look closer at a thread that appears ok can help

Apologies for the confusion. New to the forum and all. Yes, basically I was wanting a double din touchscreen DVD player but I don't like where they mount with the aftermarket kits. Too low on the dash. I would like it to go in the speedo where the navi screen goes. Not sure if it's even possible but I've seen the speedo on different sites for about $200.

I recall reading somewhere in a nav retrofit thread that the nav speedo fits on a non-nav R56 (can't speak for others). I was curious about a similar thing. I have no desire for the nav, but if I could use it as a mount for something else, I'm totally for that...I'm curious if anyone else has attempted anything similar as well.

I can confirm that on my 09 R56, the NAV speedo head can directly replace the stock speedo head and function properly. I did it - it works. Plugs right in. To be clear, we are just talking about the speedo head and not the nav unit. I'm using the big square cutout in the middle to hold my iPhone and I've wired that back to the single din Kenwood radio that I bought to replace my failed factory "boost" unit.

Thanks for the reply! So all of the functionality is there? Speedometer registers, fuel gauge works? Also does it look like you could fit an aftermarket touchscreen double-din unit in the opening?
