I am now in the process of researching for some ICE...i have all the performance parts that i want (for now). So i was wondering what are your audio set-ups and how do you like it so far? Please state each item in your set-up and if you can provide pics

As of right now, im set on the Kenwood KVT-715DVD as my head unit. here is a pic:

Now all i need is some input on audio....thats where you come in.

chris, head unit looks like a winner, Sirius & HD radio and DVD. You will definately have your bases covered.

Last year I had the following installed in my "S":

Head Unit .... Alpine 7998 XM/CD Mp3 player. I have always like and owned Alpine units and have been very pleased with my selection. I really wanted to match the mini's interior lighting and this deck doe3s it perfectly.

Deck Open

Deck Closed

Deck Nite

The front door components are Lightning Audio Storms ( 5.25&quot which have a nice full bodied sound with a night bass section. They are powered by a 500 watt Lighting Audio 4 channel amp. In addition the Amp also powers the 10" Lightning Audio sub in a custom enclosure.

Amp & Sub without false Floor

Amp & sub with False floor (note Mini Wings on floor & crossovers in side cubby)

False floor & sub are removable to access battery. Has been done in under a min to discharge battery.

While not a perfect system (it is in a car with a supercharger with an opened intake), My system is well rounded with the right amount of bump for me. Can be heard and felt even @ highway speeds with roof open.

If have any question PM me or respond. I have great picture with the entire interior removed for install. Brian @ Tuners in Plattsburgh, NY did a great job. No dreaded squeaks as an unwanted by product.

Later

My fave is in my '62 MGA. It's called a radio blanking plate and covers up the hole in the dash where an optional radio could be installed. Pure Nirvana, just the revs of the engine, the scream of the bias-ply tires and the wind.

Sounds like the radio in my '73 MGB... after it was stolen. Twin Jetted SU carbs ported & polished heads with Monza exhast. It sounded great! Too bad everything else on the car kept breaking. I litterly had a rear shock fall off the car. I also had break pads fall out of the calipers (my fault, I just didn't check them when I bought the car).

Currently, I have a crossfire vr404 amp with Polk 6500 fronts and an MM10 sub for the rear. If I were going to do it again I would buy small amps that would fit in the styrofoam hole under the passenger seat & a pair of JL 6w0 subs for the rear.(boot, not rear speakers)

Chris, how about KVT-815DVE instead of 715? It has a display on the face plate, which allow easy operation when the monitor is closed. The illumination is switchable between blue and amber.

Yes, a perfect match for BMW/MINI interior illumination.

What I really like about this unit is that it supports HD radio (High Definition radio). HD radio receives and decodes digital signals from the local radio stations. The sound quality is comparable to CD and Satellite radio, but without montly fee.

I have the HK system.
The sound ranges from good to great. But when I'm driving fast and the windows are down sometimes the sound suffers.
Back "in the day" I had an Orion system and then a Rockford Fosgate system. Both of which were liberated along with the car. I was glad to see the links above because I'd like to see what I can add onto the OEM system to increase some tight bass and midranges.
I think a big drawback of the HK system is the fact that it doesn't read MP3. I'm not in the market for a new cd player so I haven't see what is availible. However, I'd think a CD player should be able to play mp3s and do DSP. These have got to be very cheap items to add. Think about it. How many Mini owers do you know that don't have a burner?
I also added an AUX input. Now, I was kind of surprised by the fact that I had to pay something to add this. I'm use to Denon head units and they usually had an aux input. What I don't undestand is why it takes 6 wires (or so) to connect the aux unit. Does it give you the ability to control an added CD changer or something?
I do like the fact that you can adjust the Aux input gain.

You know if I keep the seats down, I think I could get two 15" woofers in the back.....hummm.
