For people who are having or have had problems with the GTA car kit

Hey All,

So, I got my car kit on Saturday, and can now say that 4 days later, it is installed perfectly. Like most people I had to un clip a bit of the dash near the speedometer (and unscrew one t20 screw) to remove the down stems and get to the stereo.

Next, I realized that no matter what I did, I just couldn't get the MINI harness and GTA harness to make a secure connection. The clip would not catch on the side with the flat pins, so here is what I did:

1) I very gently removed the clip from the Mini harness, and then re attached it (to make sure I could) then took it off again.

2) I connected the Mini harness and the GTA harness, and boom, perfect fit! And a very solid connection as well.

3) I secured the connection with duct tape, and later pull ties, because I'm OCD

Then came the fun of getting the radio back in. No matter what I did, I just couldn't get it lined up, so here's what I did

1) I removed the center vent that the iPod cable squeezes through (1 T20 screw)

2) With it removed I fished the GTA kit (the big block) down through the hole and placed it flush with the wall behind the vented grate.

3) I replaced the grate, but have not yet screwed it back in, it holds pretty well w/o and since I'm going to upgrade soon to a vent with a coin holder, I thought against it.

4) I grabbed the harness connection, and pulled it toward the steering wheel as I guide the radio back in. Perfect fit.

This is what worked for me, I feel secure enough with my abilities around electronics that if I messed anything up, I could repair it. I also taped the iPod cord to the GTA kit securely. The reason I fished everything to the bottom was that, I didn't want something just hanging behind the climate controls. Don't know if it could effect anything, didn't want to find out!

Hope this helps some folks out. GTA makes a great kit, I used one in my Honda for a couple years, and am now excited to use it in my Mini. The fact that they are working on a bluetooth dongle excites me too!

Good luck!

Joe
