Navigation & Audio NAV question & unrelated Stereo question
NAV question & unrelated Stereo question
Or maybe questions*
Okay. Nav first.
When I got my 03 MC in July, it did not come with a GPS disk, rendering it useless. The only thing I really do with my OBC is check my remaining gas mileage and make the stupid safety warning go away. I'm the type of person who would get lost in 4x4 empty room and I'm about to move. New city. New state. New laws. Fun stuff. I need a GPS. So I started looking for the disk, which I'm now seeing is $200. Is this something id have to buy every year? Given the reviews of MC nav systems, it doesn't seem worth it to me when I can just get a Garmin with lifetime updates for like $100 more. Am I missing something? What's your opinions? I'd really like to hear from someone with experience with both methods.
Now for the stereo. I want iPod connectivity. So far from stalking the threads, I've seen a few options. Replace the stereo with newer stock. Replace it with third party ( which is like to avoid). Transmitter (also want to avoid since they tend to be hit or miss). I'd like to avoid complex drawn out procedures if possible. I'm leaning towards the newer stock radios because I can always hand it over to best buy and say "fix it." I've seen them going for about $230 on eBay so not bad. Will any recent models fit an 03? Like I can pop in an 09 or 2012?
Also should probably mention specs and such. 03 MS CVT premium with h/k. As far as I know, it was custom built in 2002 since I saw somewhere that could affect things. I do have steering wheel controls that I'd like to keep. (And my volume up seems to be disabled, any known cause/fix?)

The newer discs are indeed $200. I have an older one I could sell you for significantly less. You should be able to get an OEM head unit for under $100 which will get you aux-in capability. You can only use '03-'06 head units - the newer ones from the R56 are completely different. If your other steering wheel controls are working, I'd suspect a bad contact on the up volume.
