Aftermarket headunit and speakers with factory Navi?

I'm really wanting to replace the headunit and speakers in my R52... but have factory navi. I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find anything on the ease and/or complications of this. Has anyone done both? I would really love to put in a dvd player (I know the flip out kind is a lot easier, but blocks the gas gauge and part of the screen which I'm okay with.) but I'm kind of apprehensive about it.

Also want to know more on this. I'm not so much interested in the nav because it sucks, but I want to retain the trip computer function. Can this be done with aftermarket stereos?

Ok, I've seen some posts that lead me to believe you only lose the voice command from the nav? Not the nav screen?

Just be sure you get the anteanna adaptor for the radio you install, along with the adaptors for the steering wheel controls...big things imo.
The antenna adapor is Required due to the fact power is added at the radio to run a signal amplifier upstream of the radio....just choppong off the connector in the car, and adding a generic connector can result in very poor reception.
In a gen1 (from what i understand ) the nav is seperate....heck a couple of folks have ripped it out and installed an i-pad type display in the hole.....it is an expensive to repair/replace unit, and like ALL AUTO nav units, about 5-10 years behind portable units.....made even worse by the fact the mini nav is a carryover unit from several years prior.....

PS
the change is HARDER if you have the HK system due to the amp, and somewhat nonstandard desgin/setup.
