USB Flash Drive Problems

I have a 16 gig flash drive that is hooked into the stereo. Once I connect the drive the stereo recognizes everything fine. The directories are there and music plays. Once the car is turned off and back on again the USB drive is not recognized. The only way to get it to work is to pull it out and plug it back in. Are there others having this problem. Is it the drive or the Stereo?

Thanks

I have done some more searching and am thinking the drive is too large?

Oh geez....I just ordered a 32G so I could put all my music on it and not have to use my phone. I hope it works.....

I use a 16GB drive in my MINI everyday, so it's definitely not too big.

What year is your car? My wife's 2010 usually takes a few minutes to load, but my 2012 is generally immediately ready.

I use a 32GB in my MCS daily. It usually starts playing within 5-10 seconds of starting the car, unless I'm screwing around for a bit before starting (in which case it plays immediately upon startup). It starts reading from the stick once a door is opened as far as I can tell.

I've had this happen occasionally (usually on really long road trips). SA thinks its either heat affecting the drive, or it just rattles loose enough that the connection is intermittent enough to error reading/building the TOC into memory or limit access during play.

My car is a 2010 R57. The strange thing that happens is when you turn the car off then back on again, it looks as if it trying to load but then changes to tuner (radio) ? I am going to try another brand and reformat.

Sounds like business as usual based on our 2010 R55. Sometimes when we start it, it will switch to the radio and after 4-5 minutes USB can be selected again. I keep hoping the dealer will flash updated stereo software at one of the services, but I doubt they ever will unless it stops working altogether.

I have been using a Verbatum 8gb flash drive for three months in my 2011 Mini S to listen to music, without any problems. Two days ago it stopped working....seems like it doesnt recognize it anymore. I loaded the music on a different/new zip drive and got the same result? any advise?

I got the 32GB of this teensy USB drive. It's the same size as my thumbnail. I loaded it up and it works great. It did fade in and out at first and I thought it wasn't going to work but, once music loaded into the system, it worked well and I can use all the menu features.

That's the same one I have, and it works great as well.

I don't think it's the flash drive. I have my ipod connected with the Y-adapter and it happens to me too: Where the radio won't recognize it, but after a few minutes it's back on.
