Stereo stops reading flashdrive

Having a sporadic issue with my base stereo on my 2012 Countryman. In USB mode, the stereo occassionaly stops reading the flashdrive -- need to actually re-insert it for the stereo to start reading it again - all other modes work normally - anyone come across this issue?

Yes, I've had that on a few occasions. So far I've just powered-off the stereo for a few minutes and the function returns. I initially assumed the thumb drive was acting up - I had one die on me last year. Hummmm... I wonder if the car is smoking the memory sticks?
