NM looks like that is what speaker level inputs on amps are for... man this stuff is confusing.

So I guess if the rears are going to be set as subs, I could find a 5 channel amp and split the sub channel right? The xd600 is $500 everywhere reputable :(

 

2006 Cooper S JCW (certificated). Amp dead at 12/10/2013. Looking at all options for this. What a PITA.

Hello everyone I'm new to this but I was wondering if someone could help me out, I have a 2005 Mini Cooper s and it was recently in for slight rear end damage to the bumper, that's all fixed up now but for some reason audio is only coming out of the drivers side speakers. I've been told this is due to the hk amp but I couldn't tell if this was true or not based on reading on here. Everyone seems to complain of no sound at all when it goes. Any help would be extremely appreciated!

Have you been successful in fixing these HK amps? You'd have quite a business if so.

 

Have a 10/2003 build 2004 Cooper S. 85k miles. A while back, I noticed the drivers mid speaker stopped working. Then yesterday, I heard what sounded like a fire alarm going off for maybe 10 seconds and no music. This morning, it worked, but died again at lunch after maybe 10 minutes of operation. Made some strange sounds then too but nothing like yesterday.


The JL audio is pretty tempting. Can find for about the same cost as a used H/K, which might likely die any second anyway.

 

I am definitely leaning toward the JL Audio. Does anyone know if there would be an issue with the Aux in or Satellite Radio if I went with the non H/K Amp?

I figured it was only a matter of time so I sold all my working HK components before they died and got Alpine amp/Kenwood head unit and Boston Acoustic speakers. I sold everything for about 500 and all the new stuff cost about 600 installed. I also picked up bluetooth and ipod contol as well as an adapter to keep my steering wheel controls. Sometimes the best defense is a good offense.

 

It's not a paper cut, those heal by themselves.

 

I am building a track car out of an '04 MCS. I have most of the stereo parts except the head unit if anyone is interested.

 

So the amp is good? Perhaps the front door speakers? pm me a price for the amp please good sir

The only help out there is to take it apart, find the damaged part and replace it.

If memory serves it's a MOSFET that cracks.

 

I did do the switch to the JLAudio M600/6.


I have not completely figured out if I can work around it, but it did kill my Dicelink ipod integrationthat is connected to the Aux in, but the Satellite Radio (aftermarket Blitzsafe XM setup). Only thing I can think of is the iBus wire that has nowhere to go now is affecting it somehow.


It is definitely louder, since it is not limited any more, but I still have a some tweaking to do as I have too much midrange for now. The adjustment pots are VERY sensitive. I think I need to start all over with lower initial levels and make small changes.

 

Count me in, the H/K amplifier just died 2 weeks ago in my R53 '04

Considering my options at the moment :

• upgrading for a complete aftermarket audio system
• buying a used H/K amp
• replacing the amp with a 6 ch one
• finding a shop to fix the old one

One thing for sure, this issue really suck big time.

 

Non of the people that I pm'd back about wanting my amp ever got back to me. I have the amp still out of my '04, $300 obo.

 

Honestly, $300 for a used product that has such very high risk of failure, personally I am very reluctant to spend that much money. But again, that's me.

Does anyone have photos of the RCA input from the factory amp? I am looking into this as my amp has failed but I am not sure about all this wiring as I am not a stereo guru.

 

There are none. The speaker-level audio inputs, power supply, data & amplified + filtered audio outputs all share the same multi plug.

 

So what are you supposed to do here:

"You'll need two RCA connectors to wire up the two-channel input from the HK Head Unit to the amp. Positive (+) goes to the center pole. There is a switch at the amp to accept 2 channel input, and that's what you'll need to select."

Sorry, stereo idiot trying to figure this out and I have no idea what this is saying.

 

if we are fitting a new amp it'll need to accept speaker level audio and those amplifier inputs will need to be connected to the vehicle speaker level output wires.


Personally I'd either use the amplifier supplied plug or something like this plugged directly into the amplifier.

For speaker audio.

You can use any connector that works for you, this person is suggesting RCAs, which age generally reserved for line level audio.

 

+1 for this idea! I did the same thing (thanks for the suggestion). Got all new equipment and paid about $150 after selling the old parts. Sell it while it still works!
