Help with Ipod Interface from Logjam?

Hi Gang!

So I had used one of the Logjam interfaces in my wife's Honda with excellent results and it appears they make one for BMW/Mini. I emailed their tech support and this is what they recommend; http://www.logjamelectronics.com/diceibmwt5v.html

They do say as long as my mini has been the pre-wired 3-Pin and 6-Pin CD changer connector. I think this is supposed to be on the back of the radio or perhaps in the boot? How do I verify. I have a 2009 MCS convertible made 01/09. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Mark

The CD changer goes in the secret compartment and that is where the wiring would be behind the insert.

As for it being a 3 and 6 wire system NO. They are MOST Bus (optical fiber) controlled in the 2007 and later models. So I am not sure what they are talking about. When i had my secret compartment open there was a power connector and fiber optics and that was it for connection to the CD changer.

Thanks! I was hoping you would chime in on this one. I will open up the compartment and check it out while installing the new speakers. Just looking for a cost effective option for my iPod hookup. Not happy with just the aux in jack but don't want to spend $600+ for some other alternatives.

Yeah the $600+ price is a bit much, I did it only because I go such a good deal on my JCW and just let the dealer do it. The car came also with 100,000 mile warranty and 100,000 service agreement so I wanted it to be covered until then... I just hope my Integral Audio Soundstage doesn’t interfere with their warranty coverage ….

If you go to the manufacturers (Dice Electronics) website you can use their vehicle compatability program and you will find that the Sliverline Duo will not work with the 2nd Gen cars. It works with the 1st Gen cars and other BMW models without the MOST Bus connections that the new BMW and MINI's have in them.

http://www.diceelectronics.com/dice_validator.php

It seems they only have two universal units that will work with the 2nd Gen MINI.

Why not go with the OEM kit "IPOD CONNECTION RETROFIT KIT" It fits in the Secret compartment on the R56 and R55 cars. Not sure where it could go in the R57 but if there is a full size secret compartment just like on the R55/R56 then there should be no problem with the installation as the radios and MOST bus are the same in the 2nd Gen cars of 2009

Price at Penske Parts is $329.95
Part Number is: 65110035959

I do believe there is some coding that the dealer will have to do but you may be able to find someone with NCS expert to help you out with that.

Thanks, I will check that out and maybe make that my next project after the Integral Audio Soundstage and sub that I am doing right now. After that, I think anything will seem easy.
