What iPod Interface do I have?

Hi all,

I bought another Mini yesterday (I had a 2006 JCW silver and black and sold it for something else, then realized how much I loved the mini), and it has an iPod adapter.

I tried plugging my iPhone in, and it plays music, but it does not charge, and the radio doesn't really allow me to do anything other than selecting a random song.

Also, it turns off the controls of my iPhone - it just says "Accessory connected" on the screen.

So, basically, I can't really select, other than randomly, the music I want to play.

So, how do I select songs? Should I use a regular iPod instead of an iPhone? Or should I just rip the iPod interface out and put in an AUX cable (this is what I did on my first mini and it worked great...).

Thoughts?

Thanks!!!

The first generation iPod adapters required you to put songs into playlists, MINI1, MINI2 throught MINI5. Those then correspond to the 1 through 5 buttons on the radio. Button 6 plays everything on the iPod or iPhone, and has a random function.
The adapters were also before Apple switched the charging wire from firewire to USB, so newer devices won't charge without an adapter. I got one of these and it works fine with my iPhone:

Hopefully whoever got your car originally put the iPod adapter manual in with the owner's manual, it looks just like it and is the same size, so it fits in the little leather case.

I found the CableJive dockStubz works better with an iPod touch than the Scorsche.

Ok, sweet! The playlist thing worked. I am able to use the MINI1, 2, 3 etc.

Now for the charging - gotta order that little adapter!

Thanks guys!
