Mini Connected and Android?
I just got a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Does the Mini Connected option work better with an iPhone or does it even matter? I know there's a long sticky about connected above, but my question is does it make any difference what kind of smartphone you have.
That said there is a thread around here that has a convoluted workaround to get an Android to work with most but not all of MINI Connected.
There are no plans to integrate Android with the current generation MINI Connected, according to this: http://www.motoringfile.com/2011/12/...soon-to-minis/
All that does is use an iTouch on MINI Connected, with Android providing the data connection. It doesn't have anything to do with Android integration. You can do the same using a MiFi device.

And Motoring File did give the exact reasons why it is not being done now but will be hopefully in the future. Unfortunately there really is no way to provide backwards compatibility.
Thanks. I've got an iTouch, a pretty old one though (I hardly ever use it). So in effect you connect the Apple device with MiniConnected to the car, and tether the Android to it. The WiFi hotspot connection doesn't cost $$ right? Considering I don't see myself messing with Facebook/Twitter in the car (the GN does that stuff fine) I assume the best feature for Mini Connected in the car is the radio streaming, and you could do that straight from the Android into the Aux port. Now all I need is a new Mini lol.
Only if your carrier doesn't know you're tethering
If your data plan already includes tethering, you are already being charged a premium for it. If it's not part of your data plan, you'll see an additional monthly charge whenever you use it.
