First the meat and potatoes of the question: Are the front door speakers hooked up to some sort of cross-over, or simply wired in parallel?
The background, this is on a '12 MCS with the basic, or "boost", stereo. I've had the car for about three weeks, and am starting to get annoyed with how muddy the mid-range is, so much so, that I can't understand the lyrics to much of my favorite music. The volume of the system is acceptable to me, I just really want more clarity.
I'm planning on doing the front/rear channel swap, and replacing the stock speakers with some high efficiency units. I don't feel like going through the trouble of finding a place to mount separate tweeters, so I'm thinking that a 3.5" coaxial in the upper door, and a 6.5" component woofer in the lower door would be a good compromise without terribly low staging. Are there any problems with that idea?
For the actual speakers, I was looking at some 2-way Infinity Reference 3.5's, and JL TR series 6.5" components. I haven't really picked out a 6x9's but I figured they should probably be 2-ways, as they will be getting a full range signal after the channel swap.
Thanks for your help,

There is so much information on this in the seciton of the forum that you need to search and read thru.
There is no need to have yet another thread on this exact subject.

Yes, I realise that speaker selection and the terrible stereo have been discussed at length in many of these threads.
However, I have not been able to find a definitive answer as to whether the front speakers are simply wired in parallel. It seems odd to me that they would expose such a terrible amplifier to a 2 ohm load.

First of there are a bunch of threads that state on the BASE system the speakers are wired in parallel. And that on the HiFi and H/K systems they are not as each speaker has its own amp section.Originally Posted by jjgoertz
