Best replacement speakers for the 15W factory HU?

So I have messed around here and there with my stereo but i'm just not satisfied with the sound. I did the front/rear channel swap and installed boston pro 6.5's in the front doors. Well needless to say the factory HU doesn't have near the power to push any bass out of the boston's. The highs are much improved over factory but no bass from the front. And of course by doing the channel swap I cut most of the bass anyway. Now the factory rears have much better bass but I have to keep it on "0" so that when i turn up the volume they don't pop. I'm not really wanting to add an amp so I'm looking to replace all the speakers. My questions is what works best with the factory HU? I want good highs but decent bass as well. Also, are there any certain specs I should be looking at when buying? Frequency range? Peak power? I have a small amount of knowledge but need some advice.

Efficiency (or sensitivity) is the relevant spec. However, getting decent bass without adding an amplifier is impossible, depending on your definition of "decent bass". The problem is that a speakers efficiency is inversely proportional to it's bandwidth (range of frequencies that it will play). For a given power input, you can get a speaker that will play loud, or play low, but not both.

A speaker's efficiency varies with the cube of it's Fs (resonant frequency), meaning it is extremely sensitive to bandwidth changes. The factory front 6" speakers have 1 watt/1 meter sensitivity ratings of about 88dB. Your Boston's are probably listed at ~88-90dB (if they even list the woofer separately), but that was probably 2.83V/1M into 4 ohms, or 2 watts/1 meter, which is really 85-87dB at 1W/1M. And that's the listed spec, actual numbers are usually lower.

Bottom line: You'll have to give up bass to get volume, or vice versa, or bite the bullet and add an amp. Or, use very efficient speakers and add a separate subwoofer.

Awesome explanation Kevin.

Not trying to sell anything here but the IA sub is about the best you can find out there as an add on. You can find cheaper but well the sound is cheaper as well. IA is about the best bang for the buck you can find.

Sounds great in my car and i have an original model and the newer ones sound even better.
