CD player operation

Help! This may seem dumb but...
When listening to a CD, then shutting off the car in the middle of a track- when restarting the car the CD does not start at the same place it was when the car was stopped. I listen to books on CD and it's near impossible to figure out where I was in the book because there seems to be no way to tell where you are/ were within a chapter. Some CD players list the minutes on the display, this one apparently does not.
Am I doing something wrong here, should I turn the CD player off before shutting off the car, or is there some other magic?

A quirk of these cars, I've never found a way around it, for near 2 years now. Goes back to the beginnig of the track after the car sits for about 15 minutes. Turning it off before shutting down makes no difference...still 15 minutes.

My wife's '10 Clubman works like this but my '11 MCSa picks up from the same spot.

On a 2007 - 2010 the memory is lost after the computer times out at about 15 minutes so there is no way to come back to the same spot.

As stated about "some" but it also seems not all 2011+ cars will go back to the same spot in the CD. It looks like it might be a revision issue depending on what options you have and what software revision is in the car.

This is as stated previously is a quirk of the car and as such no one has found a way around it at this point. Unfortunately these cars are fully computer control and as of yet there are somethings that have just not been able to be changed in the software.

I don't listen to cd's but playing an iPod resumes and so does playing off a hard drive. If that helps at all.
