Installing a sub in the back...help?
Here is the story. I had a sub (all in one sort of thing by Infinity) installed in my last car. Sold that car and took all that stuff out. I bought my coop about 8 months ago and since then haven't had it installed. called the place and they want $125 (again) for installing it. I have all the wires already that I bought for my last car and still have them sitting in the guest room in the closet.
I am dying to get this thing installed, however I am a student and don't have much money to pay someone. So, is it possible for me to do this on my own?
I know I have to run the wiring through the side panels near the bottom of the door (well thats how it was in my last car) and then hook something up to the battery, then probably the stereo? This is a long shot I guess.....is it pretty impossible for me to do? I don't have HK if that matters.
much thanks

The battery's in da boot... so no issues there. If your MCS is still completely stock HK, you can tap into the rear speaker outputs that are located @ the HK amp in the passenger side of the boot behind the access panel for your signal leads. It will require you to take the trim panel off that side (you'll have to remove the rear seats, there's a post in here showing you how, takes just a few minutes, not difficult). What I'm not sure about is if the sub would be able to handle the power from the amp as inputs and I think there is a DSP built in to the HK amp so tapping in to the leads from the head unit may not work. It seems like it would...... all you need is an audio signal, nothing that is amplified power or DSP'd. You may need a line driver to convert it, although I'm sure that's what's built into your sub so it will accept speaker level inputs.
If you have an aftermarket head unit already installed, then just run some RCAs from it to the back....... because the aftermarket unit should already have the "converter" installed to use the HK amp and no need to tap in to wires if you don't need to. It will be a cleaner signal also.
A little winded, I know..... hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions. I've had my MCS' interior in and out a few times in the 9 months I've owned it to install and reconfigure my audio system (completely aftermarket).

I'm assuming what you have is something called the Infinity Basslink. Does this look familiar?

If that's the case what you're going to need is a connection to the battery for power, a connection to the ground (exposed metal in the car), and a lead from the factory stereo. You could do as Cabalabadingdong recommended and tap into an existing speaker lead although I don't personally favor that idea as any changes to the fader and balance on the radio will also effect the sub as if it were an extra speaker.
