How to play ipod on shuffle mode?

Ok, sorry, title should say how to play iPhone 4 on shuffle mode.
On my R53 I had the ipod connector installed in the glove box. I would put my ipod on shuffle and then plug it in. The ipod just about never left the glove box except to add more songs on occasion.
I now have an R56 that has MINI Connected with Nav. My music is now all on my iPhone4.
When I hook up the iphone there doesn't seem to be a shuffle option on the ipod screen, I can go to a playlist or I can just play, starting alphabetically it seems. Do I just do like I did with the old ipod and set it to shuffle then plug it in?
Am I missing something here?
Also, when I picked up my MINI on Saturday, my MA showed me a way to play from the iphone without actually having to plug it in. I can't get it to do that again to save my life.
Thanks,
Annette

When you select Ipod on the tuning screen there should be a button labled RDN. That's for random.

If all else fails read the manual? It's even available online..

Thanks, richardsperry. I read the manual last night for a bit, but there is SOOO much more now than when I got El Kabong I'm just a bit overwhelmed(in a good way).
I have had my car since Saturday and only have 52 miles on him, so as you can tell I haven't had near enough seat time to start learning.
I still can't make a phone call yet .
I'm actually starting to think about bringing my old ipod out of retirement and figuring out a way to leave it in the car permanently like I did in my old car, but am not sure how that will work with the iphone.

Did you pair the phone with the car? Make sure that the bluetooth on the phone is on, Press the steering wheel phone button for about 2 secs, then press the "BT" button on the car display, then press "Pair". You have to enter a code, i chose the last 4 of the phone #, enter it for the car display and then on the phone, (that's what I had to do with the new Iphone 4 I got) IT then takes a couple of mins to transfer the contacts.

You really, really want to change the position of the microphone in the overhead console. it will make a lot of difference in what the person on the other end of the call hears. It's really easy, all you really need is a small torx screwdriver.
