Muddy Ipod!

I just picked up my '11MCS w/harmon kardon and the ipod/usb analog input is a muddy sounding bit, isn't it? The CD player/radio are clear as day, as is the usb flash drive, but the analog input...Mini should've worked a little harder on this one. Does anyone else experience this one?

There should be an input volume adjustment for the AUX in and that may make a difference. if it is set to high or to low it can have such an affect.

Look in you Manual to see how to adjust it.

What cable are you using to connect the iPod to the car?

I tried my friends cable, his 2 ipods, and my ipod and they all have the same mucky sound. I believe it is the quality of analog AUX jack/AUX input to the head unit Mini uses. Perhaps I have to try another Mini, but my buddy's BMW sounds just fine.

The cable that you are using may be part of the problem. There are atleast 4 different cables and for a 2011 you must have the correct cable or there will be problems.

Where do you live?

Did the cable come with the car?

what options do you have on the stereo? (mini connect, visual boost (not in usa), bluetooth, etc)

How many silver bands are there on the tip of the plug that goes into the aux jack?

Is there a number on the cable you are using? there should be a number somewhere.

it was a dealer provided cable. 0440796 and it is a stereo (3 band) cable. I live in south florida and the options are bt\usb and of course hk.
thanks again,

I have the same options H/K and USB/BT option. I don't think the iPod sound is murky at all, in fact I think it sounds about the best of all the inputs I've used, radio (HD channels included) and SAT, haven't tried a CD yet.

I think I might have played a bit w/ the EQ settings on my iPod when I first put the iPod in the car. Might be worth tinkering with.

THanks captain, but I have already tried that. I am coming to believe that perhaps it is the actual aux jack itself with the issue. I am not sure how that can be, but perhaps this forum can shed some light. Honestly though, I truly do not mind at all using my memory stick! It works great, it is little, and sounds like it should.

That is the correct cable. So there could be a problem with the wiring in the car or the ULF module could be bad. doubtful it the actual jack but anything is possible.

ULF module is the module that controls bluetooh USB and AUX inputs.

If there is a bad connection or broken wire (ground) those could be causing bad sound reproduction.

Or the aux circuits in the ULF could be not functioning properly.

I am only curious as to how I can get them to diagnose this issue. If I decide to bring it in, I will let you know.
