Blown basstube sub, need help selecting correct replacement sub.
Hey everyone, I recently got a little time and decided to put a kenwood 8" powered basstube model KSC-WA801 to add a little Bass to the stock non-hk 2002 cooper s stereo system and with much credit to the DIY rear speaker install thread I stripped the back panels, seats with ease, much thanks.
I got everything working for a few days, when I noticed that the sub started to sound terrible, upon inspection the sub was blown the surrounds were in pieces. The surrounds felt like it losts its elasticity due to the fact that this unit was sitting in the basement for a few years so i figured it deterioated over time, and not that i wired something wrong or set the sensitvity too high, or maybe i did? If I did something wrong somebody let me know so I can correct it.
1. I tap into the rear speakers with 18 guage speaker wire and goes directly into the high level inputs of the powered basstube.
2. remote wire into cigarette 12v source
3. 8 guage power wire from battery into in-line fuse to back of basstube
4. 8 guage ground wire to location on the right grounding area of where all the brown wires go to.
Would these 8 guage wires be drawing to much power to a basstube that doesnt really require it?
Well Im now looking for a replacement 8" sub. that would work with the amplifed basstube. I think its a dvc, but from reading the spec sheet of the kenwood tube im not sure which type of sub I should be getting in terms of watts, ohms, etc. can someone point me to a sub that would be ideal for the capability of the amp, or what I should be looking for. Thanks so much.

Well I know you already have the amp but that setup is prone to break..I would go for a cheaper JL DVC. Check out sonic electronix they never steer me wrong..if you need help with install let me know I am pretty good installing stereos/walkthroughs.
I am currently running dual amps (2-chan & 4-chan) all speakers are powered and am running a single 10in dvc JL audio. I can just remove the box whenever I need a weight reduction
Oh and its a hatch/truck cab 10in box. Sounds great now that I removed the rear seats and put in a RSD. No crazy dual 12 in subs for me. For me every time I have installed those sub/amp setup in a box they end up blowing because they are cheaply made and only push 50 watts RMS..
