That part number is NLA from MINI...the one in post #3 replaces it. That's why you will only find the "347" at dealers that haven't sold it and still have it on the shelf.

Hope you get the one you're looking for.

"D'oh!"

Any idea what the difference between the two are?

I talked to the parts guy and he said based on what he was seeing, there wasn't any readily apparent difference.

Isn't it the same look that the MINI piece gives? jmo, but you don't really see the extension that much when the GPS is on it (and the steering wheel and tach help as well). Probably to the same extent that you would see the MINI part.

Maybe once someone gets one installed we can do some photo comparisons.

The Mini GPS mount is a now a round pod that snugs up to the tach and the wiring is routed inside the arm on the mount.

Check out the PDF of the installation instructions I posted on the previous page.

Thanks!

I see what the difference is now.

The new kit doesn't include an SD card for the GPS.

The CravenSpeed mount is very stealthy and you already have the wiring.

OK, so it looks like this would position the the GPS "inside" the steering wheel (the pictures even go so far as to show it sitting in front of and interfering with the tach, but I'll atttribute that to a poor illustrator until someone posts a picture).

The CravenSpeed like I have (and linked to earlier) lets me position the GPS "outside" the steering wheel.

Yah. For that, I'll use my US$18.53 flexible RAM suction cup mount that I can completely remove when I'm not using the GPS.

Or, for US$29.00, you can use the version that fits in the cupholder.

Okay, getting in my MCCS and looking at the tach in relation to the steering wheel, I notice that you'll be able to rotate the GPS on the OEM mount from about 10:00 around to 2:00 giving you an unobstructed view of the GPS "outside" the steering wheel.

If you have the GPS in the 9:00 or 3:00 position, the GPS will be "inside" the steering wheel.

I was trying to figure that out from the installation instructions that were posted. Two things gave me pause. One, I noticed a reference to "indents" in the base, so I'm not sure how free one will be to position the arm in any given position. And looking at the pictures, even if you can put it at 10 or 2, I don't see how the throw will be long enough to clear the steering wheel. That's been the challenge for the aftermarket units - make the arms long enough to get outside the wheel (and creating the popsicle stick effect). It will be interesting to see how it looks once someone gets it installed and can take some pics.

The cradle for the GPS is affixed to a ball on the "adaptor". So regardless of where the base is positioned, the cradle for the GPS can be rotated to level.

How my line of sight (others may have their seat higher, they're taller, they're shorter, their steering wheel is positioned closer/higher, etc.) is positioned in relation to my steering wheel is the top of the steering wheel travels along the top of the tach so anything positioned outside of the circumference of the tach at 10:00 around to 2:00 would be "outside" the steering wheel. If you go past there, the GPS moves around the smaller circumference of the tach to "inside" the steering wheel.

If I wasn't heading out to dinner with CheekyMini in a few minutes, I'd snap a pic of what I'm talking about.

Tomorrow, I'll use a Post-It note, actually sticking a corner to the tach to illustrate. Again, it'll be from my driving position. Everyone's different, so it may not work for everyone.

I am going to the MINI dealer tomorrow to look at the mount. They have put one aside for me.

I have a NUVI 660 which does NOT have the correct power for this mount, but I want to see how it fits with a Widescreen and whether I could use my 660 setup and replace the wiring...otherwise I want to buy a 755 which is also wide screen.

if the NUVI blocks too much tach, then KUDA mount may be the way to go for me.
Gominigo.com blocks too much with the wheel.
Cravenspeed is (i agree with others) a popsicle stick for $80+

I will post back my findings.

I have the "popsicle on a stick" and I love it. Very well built and adjustable.

Okay, the 347 part number comes with two "adaptors".

One that's already installed on the arm and another that's probably for the TomTom.

I'm going to have to make one little modification. At the top of the main dial, you can see two little rivets. They're preventing the "arm" from swinging all the way around. I'm going to grind those out before getting it installed.

I wonder how a TomTom could use that mount using the "EasyPort" mounting system that they have now.

Xeraux - are you not going to use that extra piece? Any chance you could send it to me for testing with a TomTom? I'll pay for shipping and send it back if you want it.

Aside from possible size issues. Can that new adapter support any Garmin based nav, or just a certian series?

I think it's made to work with Garmin GPS that use the ball and socket style connector for the cradle.

For instance, I don't see a way to connect my Garmin GPSMap 478's cradle to it, but any of the Nuvi's look like they'd work fine. (Whether or not you can see the whole screen of some of the widescreen Garmins remains to be seen.)

Nope. Not gonna use it. For a variety of reasons, I'm kinda married to Garmin for the time being. PM me your addy and I'll get it over to you.

Got it done yesterday. Pictures to follow.

I think it works nicely. I'm sure others will have different opinions.

If you've got one of the widescreen GPS, the only position it's going to work in is the 11:00/12:00/2:00 positions.

If you've got one of the smaller GPS like the Nuvi 255, 265, etc. It'll work "inside" the steering wheel, too.

I really like the ability to poke the cable back into the "arm" and flip the adaptor around so there's not this empty cradle and wiring flopping around when you're not using the GPS.

I just picked mine up, got it for less than 100 bucks. I will have it installed this afternoon and post pics.

I'm going to thread my nuvi 660 wires in as well so I don't have the dangling cord issue.
