Tried to upgrade the nav, now have blank/black screen

Recently purchased a used 2003 MCS with factory navigation. So I tried to upgrade the navigation to the newest software (version 32 I believe, its the only one I can find). Ejected map disc, inserted upgrade disc, screeen said that it was upgrading, then went blank. Gave it 10 minutes, still blank. Ejected the burned upgrade disc and re-inserted map disc, screen still blank. Drove the car back and forth to work, screen still blank (several on off cycles).

Not sure what to do here. I have tried to roll back to an older version but I don't think that the files that I am downloading are the correct file type.

Is there anyway to reset nav back to factory original settings or something?

Any help here would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Brian

The drive is finicky about reading CD-R discs. Try burning a new copy at slow speed, or on a different brand of media, or on a different computer.

I also saw in the Navigation forum that you can purchase the official firmware CD from a BMW or MINI dealer for less than $10, part number 01 59 0 141 891.

Awesome, thanx for the reply.

I burned at the slowest speed possible 1X but I don't have a different media to try it with. So looks like I may have to go with the purchasing route.

Is there any way to reset the nav. I'm a little concerned now because I keep hearing it moving/spinning even with the car off. Like it is trying over and over to read the map cd that is in there but it can't.

The only thing I could suggest for reset is disconnecting the power. The Nav computer is on fuses F10 and F22. Pull them and wait 10-20 minutes for residual power to drain.

Or eject the map disc and leave it out until you have a chance to update the firmware.
