Navigation & Audio Which 6x9s to use and are they plug and play?
#1
Hey guys - I just got a jl12w3 powerwedge and xtant A6001T amp. I want to upgrade the 6x9s next because they seem the easiest to change out. Will I have to make a holder for these also like the front doors? Which 6x9s should I get. Lets say I want to spend ~$150-$200 for them. What are the best ones to get?
thanks

Yes they are plug and play.
Rear speakers are less critical and important than front speakers because you are farther away from them but they are important for the passengers. So do you carry passengers alot- if not then do the following:
Any good two way 6x9 will fit. Don't bother with 3 ways and dual tweeter speakers. Basic good quality 2 ways will run up to $200 for the pair and are a simple swap. The more efficient the speaker the better. Doesn't really matter how low the bass response is if you plan to add a sub anyway. Some depends if you like the sound stage to be closer to the driver or more balanced to the rear (in which case you'd need better rear speakers and more clean power to drive them). I have MB Quart DKC 169 which can be mail ordered for about $85 to $105.

Another option is Infinity Kappa 692.5i for $145 from sound domain. Got good user reviews. Free shipping!

My rear speakers are driven off my Nakamichi CD-400 head unit while my front speakers and JL stealthbox sub (bridged two channels) are powered by my Xtant 4.4 amp. The rear speakers sound fine to me. No complaints.
The holes in the stock speaker are 4 and 5/8th" by 6.5" with 8" diagonal. The depth is 2 and 7/8ths".

I swapped my rear speakers out for a set of 2-way Polks I've had for a couple of years. For some odd reason I had to widen the hole just about 2mm to get the speakers to fit. Very odd. I asked around and no one else has had this problem.
Just something to keep in the back of your mind when your new 6x9's don't quite fit.
