Bluetooth and phone book

I got my Blackberry Tour Paired with the car, but everytime I try to do a VOICE dialed call it tells me the Phone Book is empty

I can clearly see that all my contacts are listed and can scroll through them and make calls from them.

I push the phone button...
Say Dial Name...
the dude says "The phone book is empty"

Can anyone shed a little light on this.

This is the error message that you get when you try to voice dial in a car without the internal nav system and have not recorded any voice tags.

You can start off with the voice command 'Add Name' to create one.

There's another thread on non-nav voice dialing by Schatzy here that may come in handy. Or MINI's got some newer Bluetooth manuals at http://www.miniusa.com/bluetooth. They're updated to correct some mistakes in the versions given out with 07 and 08 cars, not sure if they're different from what you might have gotten with a 2010 car.

Say "Help". You need to program the phone book in the car which is separate then the one in your phone. Then when it's programed you need to say "dial name" and the name. It takes some learning.

I am so glad this popped up again as I was wondering the same thing. I assumed it was a separate thing from the phone's actual address book. Thanks for the responses here!

Yeah that was confusing for me too. You have to train the car to dial each name you want it to remember. As I recall starting the process was the most confusing part. Then when you say "dial name" (SAY THE NAME) "Bonnie" (DID YOU WANT TO DIAL BONNIE?) "dial" or "yes" it does it right.
