iPhone mounting bracket suggestions?

Apologies first as the subject has been beaten around a lot.

After quite a long time I decided that it would be prudent to have the iPhone on a solid bracket, charging and hands free talking.

Picked up a Belkin kit yesterday for $91 at Costco which promised to do all of that but the quality was poor and inserting/removing the phone would have damaged the bracket and/or the phone in short time.

Any good devices out there that will fit the Mini? The Apple store has several but they are mostly cigarette lighter anchored and some will definitely not fit the tight angles of the Mini.

Thanks all.

RAM Mount.

I have this one when I'm using the Navigon MobileNavigator software. Inexpensive, stout, and fully removable when you're not using it.

Thanks guys.

I'm wishing for something that will charge and allow hands off telephony at the same time.

KrautHammer,

It sounds as if you do not have bluetooth built in in the car. If this is true there are a number of good Parrot kits for that. http://www.parrot.com/usa

there are some other bluetooth systems out there but parrot seems to have the wides range of options. These will play thru the radio and mute the radio when a call is in progress.

Newministuff has wiring harnesses for the Parrot Bluetooth kits that make them completely hidden and plug and play. http://www.newministuff.com/new/index.php

for mounting a Craven mount is probably your best bet but there are other options from ProClip and Kuda as well.

schatzy62 you are a wealth of information and yes you are correct in that I don't have integrated OEM Bluetooth.

The Parrot website is most interesting. Many thanks.

I have this mount for having the iPhone where I can see it while driving. Previously, I've been using an Apple Universal Dock on a platform I made for the cup holder. When I want the iPhone in the Craven dock running Dynolicious, MINI Wave, etc., I'll use an iPod in the Unviversal dock for music.

iphone mounted with Kuda base/ProClip mount and a Griffin Autopilot for charging and aux input. I supplied power to the Autopilot with an add-a-fuse behind the dash.

Do you have a more straight on picture (from teh back seat maybe) of the mounting. I did not see one in your gallery but I may have missed it.

Not yet... I'll have to take one later today. There may be one in NAM somewhere as I got all my ideas from this forum.

Edit: quick search didn't turn up much so I'll be sure to take one later...

Thanks. This is one of my next projects so that my phone does not float around the passenger seat or center console.

Here is another option and it works will all generations of the Mini Sorry for the bad picture taken with a blackberry however the thread link at the bottom does have several options that SRTech has available. The phone adapter can be for a blackberry or Iphone can be used with the gauges or without.

This is the Belkin that I used and found to be inadequate. Buyer beware.

Since you don't have the Bluetooth/USB option, you need something to charge the iPhone. I've had good luck with a Powerjolt USB car charger for iPhone. This works well with the Apple Universal Dock because the dock has a 3.5mm audio out port as well as the dock connector port. So, you can plug in the charger, and have audio out from the iPhone's dock port connected to the AUX in.

Nice setup Robin. Does the iPhone stay put on the Apple dock during cornering, bumps, flights and landings?

The only time it has moved and lost its connection is when I hit it with my knee. The solution is to use the passenger cup holder if your knee tends to hit the cup holder often.

I drive on some very bumpy roads and that hasn't bee a problem. However, I don't get my MINI airborne very often.

Hi KrautHammer, schatzy62 wanted a straight on shot of the iPhone mount I've been using. The app is KCRW radio station streaming.

Kuda / Proclip

Jameszimo -

That looks like a pretty sweet setup. Do the Kuda base and the proclip mount work together, or did you have to do some manipulation to mount the proclip on the kuda base?

Thanks,

Rich

rhsant,

If I remember right, the ProClip mounting holes lined up with the Kuda base (it was a while ago that I did the install).

hope that helps!
