Mod the Garmin bracket to hold an iPhone?

My wife has the MINI Garmin (360 I think) and the bracket in her R52. The Garmin is biting the dust and I'd like to modify the mount to hold her iPhone 3G.

Has anyone done this?

also the r52 is a first gen car and this is the 2nd gen forums so you may want to post over in the 1st gen section with this question

My bad. I initially intended to post this one of the non-gen related forums but then I saw this forum. It really doesn't matter though, I guess, since the end of the bracket that I'm talking about moding is the same for both 1st and 2nd gen but whatever.
