Focal 165 KRX3 Tweeter Placement

Has anyone used these speakers? Where did you put the tweeter? The tweeter is 2” and the A pillar tweeter opening is for a 1” tweeter.

I have the 165VR3 which comes with a 2" tweeter I believe. I glued them into the OEM A pillar bracket. I had to do some dremel and cutting work, but eventually I got them to squeeze into the plastic bracket. I have some pictures some where I can post.

If you can remove the metal hosing that the actual driver is in then you should be able to get them to fit without much problem as they are then only about 1-3/16" diameter, which should fit

Have you installed the focal 3 ways? Do you have any pictures?

Is the tweeter actually tweeter smaller than that? Can you email me pictures? PM me and I will give you my email address.
I’m currently running:
Alpine CDA-9886 w/Imprint
Focal 165K2 (both front and back) in the doors
JL Audio 300/4
JL Audio 500/1
JL Audio 13TW5

I’m looking for a better soundstage and imaging. I’m thinking about replacing the front K2s with the 165 KRX3 with the factory “HiFi” A pillar covers and the rears with 165 KRC coaxial for fill in. I currently have the 6 speaker system. I want to get into stock SQ completion. In my first MECA completion I won the SPL in my category with (1) 13TW5 and the 500/1 amp. I came in 2nd in the SQ with the Focal’s. I was told by the judge’s that I had too much rear fill in and that the soundstage and imaging were not there. I actually heard that before the contest but did not know how to correct it. I’m really into SQ. I’m thinking the 165 KRX3 tweeters in the A pillar may give me a better soundstage and imaging what do you all think?

Will the A pillar mounting put the tweeter too close to my ear? I guess the time correction should correct for that.

Use the Advanced area to clean up and preview your posts. It isn't that difficult. The AA icon with the X through it should kill odd formatting from html, etc. This forum engine is rather standard. You will find it used in many forums. Worthwhile learning how to use it.

The placement of tweeters for ultimate staging seems to be a controversial subject. The current trend is to put the tweeters as close to the woofer as possible. With the MINI, that is difficult because the woofer is down near the floor -- a less than ideal location for a tweeter.
