Need help wiring h/u

Hello everyone. I am having an issue with the wiring of my aftermarket h/u. When everything was connected the stereo powered up, but no sound. On the wiring harrness I have 4 extra wires that arent connected to anything (they seem to all have brown on them). I'm not sure if someone has a diagram or a picture of how it is supposed to be wired or not. I'm actually getting very frustrated right now with it. Keep in mind I do not have h/k.

Thanks for the help but I couldnt figure it out. I even took it to Best Buy and they were even stumped. So i am going to return everything and I ordered the DICE Ipod adapter with the AUX input. Hopefully this will work out better.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!

@rkw:
You just saved me a LOT of trouble. I am in the process of wiring up my new head unit and the VW/BMW/MINI wiring harness I got didn't include wires/connections for the "Illumination" and "Accessory" connections. I had no clue where they should connect. With the diagram you post, I can wire them up - no problem! If I ever motor over to San Francisco, I will definitely buy you a beer!

Man, I love this forum!!

Glad it worked for you. But my DICE has been pretty good so far, besides some minor glitches it has at times.

Thanks. Sorry to hear how yours went. Too bad you'll all the way over in Williamsport. I'd have been happy to help you wire it up.

But all's well that ends well. You sound happy with your DICE unit. So rock on!

Tom - I just wired up a pioneer head unit last night and I missed the illumination wire (my harness also came with 4 brown wires with no markings and I didn't think anything of it)... But what about the power antenna (my car has a fixed one!) and the Can +/- Bus... Are those important to hook up? And if so - to where?

Well, Billy, its hard to say. Are you sure you have the right wiring harness? I've never seen one with multiple wires the same color. There's usually a wiring diagram on the packaging of the harness - or at least a color-code chart. That will tell you what wire goes where.

If you can post the model of the head unit, and the make and model of the wiring harness, I might be able to help.

the stereo is a Pioneer DEH-P710BT and here is the harness

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ef=oss_product

It's lit and everything seems to work. I am not using the ilumination wire or the remote control wire on the pioneer side of the harnesses, and on the Cooper harness adapter, I am not using the 4 brown wires or the black ground (I grounded directly to the frame)...

I used a PAC audio SWI-PS for the steering wheel and it works flawlessly.

If everything is working fine, then what's your question?

I lost track of this thread and didn't get an email that you responded...

my question basically is, by missing the illumination wire on my new head unit, am I missing out on anything. I think that is the only wire that is available that I didn't use.

The illumination wire is used to tell the head unit if you've got your headlights turned on or not. This generally dims the head unit's display for night-time viewing/driving.

It's no big deal if you didn't connect it. I would only worry about it if you find that your head unit's display is too bright at night.
