Navigation & Audio some newbie audio questions..
#1
hi, im looking into getting a new headunit mostly for mp3 listening.
i don't really want to spend too much money into audio however, and is not going to replace the speakers since they seems to be good enough for me for now (maybe when i have some savings i can replace them)
so now at home i got an old car amplifer sitting in the garage collecting dust (its my brother's amp but he doesn't use it anymore).
its a kenwood KAC-848 4channel amplifer. and here is some information i find about the amp from the web.
Power Output at 4 Ohms, at 14.4V (20Hz-20kHz, 0.08% THD): 50 Watts x 4.
im a newbie in these audio stuff..
so just wondering if using this amp with the stock speakers would do anything better than using the output from the aftermarket head unit (haven't decide which 1 to get excatly yet)
or that it wouldn't improve much.
thanks.

I'm in the audio business. I don't htink you'll notice tremendous differences between the factory unit and the one you have described.
The main reasons to replace the amp in the built in unit are numerous:
1.) Greater wattage
2.) Cleaner quality components
3.) Different OHM output
4.) More speaker support (adding additional channels)
5.) Additional post-processing before apmlification ( like DTS decoding for example).
I don't know much about the Kenwood you mentioned. I like a lot of Kenwood car stuff, but I don't think the benefits would be worth the hassle of adding a 50W x 4 amp to your system. Just my hunch.
