Looking for 8" subwoofer recommendations...

I bought a pair of 8" Trio8 subs from CSS online....its a pretty decent sub...but not enough output for me.

i know all the usual suspects...but if i am not going to rebuild my box i wold need subs that are less than 4" deep and that takes alot of decent subs out of the picture.

I may end up rebuilding my box....so don't be afraid to suggest a killer sub.

of course lets leave the 8w7 out of the mix..i think that would tip my mini over

Rebuild the box.

I hear that Image Dynamics makes good subs.

I had a Focal Be 8" sub in my last car and it was very musical and had a sound that is hard to match the $1300 price tag might scare you away though.

Here is my list
1.we know IDQ
2. if you could go 10" I would suggest the w6 they sound great and dont take up much room.(the W7 takes the cake on being a killer sub, it gets down and dirty you will just need trailer to pull it behind your mini)
3. Focal K series or BE if you are willing to get that deep into the pockets
4.Jl w3 is fairly shallow and sounds great for the cash
5. Polk Sr line I dont think they make a 8" though

I am useing a JL 8" 3w3 sub is a sealed box in the rear. It is facing the rear side of the car so it pressurizes and loads up nicely with a great amount of punch.

I am getting a TON of punch out the 2 Treo's....and if i can solve this fluttering problem i will be more than thrilled with them.

I spent 2 hours tonight with a tube of "some sticky crap" i bought a the dollar store that resembles liquid nails...but it more of a sealant than and adhesive.

I am going to let that drive over night and then spray the inside of the box with a couple cans of cascade and try this whole thing again friday.

But this time i will use terminal cups for the speakers and not try and get cute with the power wires. I ran all the wires down into the box and out the bottom to hide them...and it looked great..but it was impossible to seal.

I know wat your talking about, it is the input signal you are using. You need something to flatten the signal before you amp it. MTX R-eq, I have mine but have yet to install it.

what treo 8's are you using the SSi or Ti we did a 911 with a pair of ssi's and worked great here is the link.

Also if you don't have as much power the hertz energy 8 works very well.

So...drum roll....after many hours of research i ended up with this 10" sub....go figure

I would have gone with the Sundown audio 10...but someone here owns all of them*lol*...plus i read a great head to head review of the 2 and the IDQ came out slightly ahead.

you can always go the affordable and great sounding way. I added a Bazooka 200watt 8" which is 105db efficient, removes very easy if the space is needed. I was in car audio for 13 years and have to addmit that Bazooka never gets the credit it deserves but they do make a very good product with much better sound qualities then other premade boxes systems. It has very good impact for rock and then will get very low and load with my girlfriends booty shaking music.
It's all about efficiency, you have to either double your speakers or double your power to gain 3db of sound. Most premade box systems are in the high 80's or low 90's db efficient. so you can see how much more sound you get from such a small package.

I started with a 250watt 8" bazooka tube first and it sounded so pretty bad....big fat bloated booming bass...i took it out immediately....then tried the 6" version and it was pretty bad too...

Neighbors kid has a bazooka sub and it is aweful, boomy and peaky sounding. I just had my 8" JL swaped out the other day witha 10" JL and custom box. I now have a lot more impact and overall smoother sound.

I'm actually debating on going to the IDQ12 instead of the IDQ10...basically the same size box required..slightly larger for the 12, and Eric has assured me the IDQ12 is tighter and has better SQ.

So today i am going to build a small box for an old NHT 1259 i have laying around and see what a 12 would look and sound like. ONce i had 2 NHT1259's in the turnk of my Honda accord with an Aperiodic enclosure and it was some of the best sounding bass i have ever had.

So, you are an NHT fan? I have NHT 2.5i and 1.5 speakers in my home theater setup.
