Navigation & Audio iPhone 3G works either as iPod or iPhone - not both?
iPhone 3G works either as iPod or iPhone - not both?
On my recently purchased 09 Cooper S with Bluetooth/USB, when I plug in my iPhone 3G (OS 3 upgraded) using the Mini Y-cable, I get the message that I need to be in a airplane mode. So in essence, the iPod functionality works, but I lose the phone !
(Not sure if charging occurs - I just saw the threads about charging problems - will check it this evening)
Anyone else had this problem and/or any solutions around this ?
I guess I can use the Aux-connection only on the iPhone and use the Bluetooth. But then I lose the ability to change tracks etc from my audio system.
Thanks for your help !

Yes, just click "no" to not place the phone in airplane mode.
When it is plugged in, the Bluetooth connection will work fine and I can confirm that you CAN use the phone & ipod at the same time.

Most people are reporting with the 3.0 software either as an update or with the iPhone 3GS there is no charging with the MINI cable. As stated in this thread all the other functions work fine - DON'T put in airplane mode. There are reports that BMW is working on it but who knows.
Okay - so I tried plugging in my iPhone again, got the 'airplane mode message', clicked no: was able to run the iPod directly, but initially I could not see the phone on the Bluetooth (either by pressing the dash or the steering phone button). I disconnected, repeated the process and looked for the phone first before starting the iPod. This time the phone showed up and I was able to use the iPod subsequently, make/receive calls etc while using the iPod without a hitch.
Good news is that the phone seemed to be charging as well:I saw the bolt sign on the top right corner and the green battery symbol !
(I have the OS 3 installed on a 3G). Will try my wife's iPhone 3GS to check if it is charging as well.
