2009 load songs slowly from USB

Has any one experienced this? My tunes are on a USB flash drive arranged in folders by artist. When a folder has many songs, it take the stereo a long time to play a song once it is initially selected. The stereo is loading all the songs in the folder. Any way to speed things up aside from having fewer songs per folder or fewer tags per song?

I never understood post ***** and their neverending quest to tell people to use the search function.

Wish you would respond that way to a question I would ask you in real life.

Some of that has to do with the read speed of the USB drive. I have this drive...

http://www.supertalent.com/products/...pe=Pico%20Mini

And I have over 8GB of songs arranged in folders and I'm having no trouble with speed at all. That being said I don't feel compelled to carry my entire music collection around with me either. Using the USB drive it is a lot easier adding and removing files as opposed to the Ipod. So I have a lot of data, but on a faster USB drive. BTW, the Pico Mini drive is a wonder! It is so small I can't even see it when its plugged in. Check the read speed. The Pico features "up to 30MB/s (200X) data transfer rate" (From the web site)

Hope that helps,
Brian

How many songs total, and what is the largest number you have in a folder?

I don't know how many individual songs in any given folder. I think the largest collection in any one folder is about 5 or 6 CD's worth. Again, check the speed of the USB drive you are using. I don't know what the limitations might be on the Mini side but I'm running at speeds that give me very little delay of any kind.

Oh yea, the other threads are helpful too!

The faster drive helped a lot, as did arranging the music into fewer songs per folder (<20). Thanks!

I decided to pick up a small size factor USB drive, which was also advertising faster speeds. My previous thumb drive was a 16 GB Kingston DataTraveler, new drive is an ATP 2GB Earthdrive.
Same playlist was copied onto both drives.
The "High Speed" ATP drive cut down the load times from roughly one minute to about 40 seconds, plus its waterproof and half the size. (can't be seen from outside the car.
Now to work on keeping my playlists small. I love using MediaMonkey for managing my playlists vs iTunes, so much more efficient!
