iPhone TomTom set up

Now this looks sweet.....!

Might solve allot of peoples problems regarding what Nav to buy, or should I use the native Mini Nav (Which IMO is a BIT $$$$$ for what you get...)

Here is the link for those of you inclined: http://iphone.tomtom.com/

Thoughts?

I wonder if you can use the app without the docking setup...

I'd like to try it out.

looks like a perfect setup for me - no need for a separate gizmo on the dash, a handsfree and a GPS - that accelerometer-enabled rotating feature is pretty cool too! I'll be all over it.

The guy from Tom Tom said nothing about it being required, he demoed the software and then said they were also working on the mount. The mount looks like a really good idea for lots of reasons, not least is the external antenna. iPhone GPS sucks inside a MINI, it needs some help. Then it'll also do hands free calling.

It might not be "required" but remember the iPhone is assisted GPS, I assume that by the "improved GPS" they're adding their own antenna gizmo as part of the dock. Additionally as mentioned by Btwyx the GPS sucks down a decent amount of power, another good reason for the dock

This would be really cool, except for the fact that it is TomTom.

I had a TomTom Plus and it was a disaster for me. The interface was nice, but the positives ended there. The maps were awful and constantly made navigation mistakes, and TomTom support was non-existent, except when they had new maps to sell you. I use a Garmin now. It's not perfect, but better. Unfortunately, they are planning their own smart phone, so I doubt we'll ever see an iPhone app from them.
